Hello, My disc bobbins are very worn on my K100RS 16v 1990 with 56k miles. Is it worth replacing just the bobbins, or should I replace the discs as I intend to keep the bike for a few more years?

Define 'worn'? Have you checked sizes (bobbin and disc) against the OEM specs?

There's a fair amount of rattle inherent in the 305mm discs of the 16V models. If the discs aren't moving side to side and you can't hear it at a crawl, it's likely still in spec. But you're prolly up on that.

The discs have about 3mm sideways play at  the rim and some movement back and forth, which was the MOT tester's real issue. There is a K1100 LT that parks next to me at work which has been a useful guide as to how much or little play the OE set up has, and there's quite a big difference. I'm going for new discs, then I will get the benefit rather than the next owner! Martin

Somebody with a 4V (or better knowledge of the metals used) is going to have to jump in on this, but if the discs and the bobbins are the same hardness then yes, you'd need to replace both. In this case I'd go looking for non-OEM (e.g. PGM / Ferodo) as they're half the price of OEM for what I suspect is a better disc.

I got a very good price on discs from James Sherlock a few months ago, not sure if he still has them but worth a try.

The side to side is looser than mine but I have no front to back movement in my K1100 front rotors, so your bobbins are worn.  Motobins sells a on disk set of 12 bobbins for GBP 28.00 (part number 20393).  These are steel bobbins by Grimeca whereas the OEM bobbins are aluminum.  Cheaper than a new set of rotors.
