Has anyone had any luck getting the locks on BMW hard bags (85 K100) rekeyed?

Thanks,

Mike Lydon

I have a feeling that BMW offers rekeying kits or at least used to.

Have you lost the key or is the lock the problem?

I have not got a key for mine so would be interested in any info.
Are the keys standard across all panniers or is each key different?
Is it possible to make one

I have the same problem, no keys and can't find anything like serial number on the bags. I'm about to see if a 6 mil screwdriver will work, and a hammer.

Ahhhh. I have the secret here, learned it myself last week. If you flip the latch open and look at the edge of it, you will see a 3 digit number. That is the key code. My aftersales BMW repair place has access to these keys, so I suspect a BMW dealer will too.

My number says 057, would this be the keys or the part number of the clasp, what numbers on yours?

Hi there
I bougth the panniers an gas ciynders (they come with a key) and then modify them for one key.
Is easy and you can do it for your ignition key to open every thing too.
The procedure is on the web, dont remember were, but not hard to find.
Best regards
JAP

Japuentes,

we are talking about the 1985 panniers.
The key is totally different from the ignition and the gas tank.
They are a simple flat key and the security is next to none. It reminds me the key of the old Krausers..... One size fits all.

Hi, CF.
I see, and were can I find data on this?, IE photos of the locks and panniers.
On the spares pages they show only two panniers models with no year differentiation.
Best regards
JAP

Just as a matter of interest my panniers have different keys on each side.
The bike is original.
Did they come out of the factory this way ?

On my old R80RT and my "fat-tank" Paris-Dakar one key unlocked both panniers, so I can't see how your RT would come from the factory with different keys.

Well my Dad owned it from new so I'll check with him.
Panniers are original though. They bear the scars from Jordan & Italy.

Rang a bmw dealer today and he said he can order me the keys for mine, hes able to order from key 40 to 72 he said, took payment and will deliver to my address.

Will take 5 to 7 days to deliver so im hopeing hes right. Will let you know if they do come and will post the number/address of the dealer.

There only £2.39 + vat each too so ordered 2 keys, heres hopeing hey. Tried 3 other dealers and they didnt have any.

I had the flat type locks shown above on my first set iof panniers
It took me while to find the codes but when i did
James Sherlock suppled me with keys and IIRC they were about £3 each
(Edit: just checked their K series price list and its £2.64 inc vat per key)
Here's their website
http://www.james-sherlock.co.uk/

I have the later round type pannier locks on my current luggage
