I am currently running a "modified" final drive on my outfit.
The mod entailed replacing the standard crown wheel bearing with a tapered bearing.
I have been changing the FD oil each time the engine oil was changed ie. usually 5000 km intervals, or prior to the commencement of each trip. The FD has done 22000Km since the mod.
At each oil change I have checked the old oil and detected no "sparkles" or metal residue.
I am just getting ready to go away again and thought I would check the FD so jacked the bike up and grabbed the rear wheel at 6 & 12 o'clock positions. I can detect some movement but am uncertain if minor movement is ok or at which point it becomes excessive. I get no movement when grabbed from the 9 & 3 o'clock positions.
