Hi Folks. Happy New Year.

Advice sort please.

I have a loose gear lever which despite some gentle tightening eventually appears to have stripped the alloy teeth and is now scrap.

My question is as I have now converted the bike to a Cafe Racer and intend to fit a spare set of Ducati rear sets I have lying around in the future 

What size is the Gear Shaft including Splines?

What BMW models use the same Gearbox lever.

I have seen an 02 K1200RS (ABS) gear selector/lever that might suite my purpose on fleabay- will this fit the spline?

Is Ebay the best place to be looking for one of these in the UK?

I also want to get a standard lever in the meantime.

In this case you'd be best served by informing us of what year/model K bike you possess. Most of us place this info in our profile so it appears at the bottom of our posts.

Having said that, all K75, K100-8V and K100-16V share the same shift lever (part number 23 31 1 450 865). I happen to know that an 8-V lever will also fit a K11 gearbox, whether the silver or the black finish. K12 series bikes use a different length of lever, as well as a much more complex linkage system, as the gearbox is a six speed and further away from the rider's foot compared to a five speed. Measure your splines and I'll measure the splines on one of my K12s.

If we are talking K100, the shaft / spline is 13mm.

I have adapted both steel and alloy accessory gear levers suitable for 13mm Honda off road bikes.

See CR250 steel, CRF450 alloy.

Most of the Hondas use that same spline. It's a standard SAE size but I cant remember what size. (C.R.A.F.T.)

I would avoid the steel gear lever Evil or Very Mad
Look at Dai's gear box. Better to break a shift lever than the shaft.

Sorry Folks assumed the bike was on my Profile as it is already entered there and it was showing to you.

It is a 1989 K100 RS 8 Valve bike.

The reason for looking at the alternative K1200 type lever is that it can be linked up to my rear set arrangement that i will be hopefully sorting in the near future

In this case many Yamaha levers will also fit. WR125 is a similar fit to CRF, and has a hinged bobbly bit on the end so it doesn't immediately snap off.

Nothing would have saved this, CF. The impact mark is directly under where the gear lever grips the gearbox shaft - I found it today during stripdown.

Here are my rearsets I use on my K100 track bike.
I used a stock alloy gear lever and modified it to suit, it even has another threaded hole to alter the change ratio. My set up has been used for stacks of track miles and has so far proved totally reliable.

I wouldn't worry about using alloy.

Those gear levers aren't just any old bit of aluminium they are very strong, probably ever bit as strong as a the welded steel Honda type but not as strong as the forged steel levers that Honda use on the bigger bikes.

Hi folks thank you for the replies thus far and also the photo's which are really helpful
I do though need to know if a K1200 lever will fit

As I can't re use my own lever as the thread is stripped. It looks like a perfect adoption for what I need with my own rear set idea. Much appreciated.

6mm drill down through the thread and then use a nut and bolt. Easy fix when we had no money WBW.

Sadly already tried that but it was too far gone as after the fix and 150 miles it has now fully stripped,  have also tried shaving 2mm off the gap for a tighter fit but that lasted 19 miles. Hence my enquiry.
