First off bike is 85 k100 RS bike died whilst riding the other day IE engine just stopped instantly have good spark and Fuel.a driver reversed into bike a few weeks ago knocking it over but it started and ran fine.a few days later the fuel level lights went a bit weird with lights coming on when tank was full but then going off again not sure if it's related but up till then they worked fine.on trying to restart bike I couldn't hear pump running just a soft single knock after about 1 second after pressing starter.i know this subject has been covered before but cannot find thread any help would be gratefully appreciated.however I do struggle with electrics so if any advice could be understood by a chimp with a multi meter I think ill be okay cheers Chris

Hi Chris, check the electrical connector for the tank is joined together properly. They can loosen when the bike is knocked down.

I agree with Basic2. It does sound absolutely typical of a loose/disconnected tank connector. You'll find it forward-left of the tank next to the tank fuel lines.

Have you checked the fuel pump damper? There are many stories about ethanol in gasoline that turns the rubber damper to muck causing bits to be sucked into the pump. I should know because I replaced my pump, screen and damper during the winter because of exactly that. It took about a dozen non-starts and stalls while riding to force me to take the fuel pump out to examine and all the articles I read matched exactly what I saw on my pump.

Moving forward now that I replaced everything, the advise I will follow is to check the condition of the damper each season and replace if suspected

Thanks guys checked connector seems fine have tank off checking other connectors all look good have to drain tank of course have full tank of fuel how do I check damper will it be obvious when I remove it thanks everyone don't know what I would do with out you cheers Chris

The pump is seated in the damper and the entire assembly is clipped on the front left quadrant of your tank. One clip front and one back squeeze together will pull the pump, damper and filter screen out. The filter screen is a push fit on the black rubber of the damper and you may see bits of black in the screen.
