Today I decided to remove the fork on the K100 solo to replace the seals.
I didn't have to remove the fairing (just the front radiator grill in order to slack the bolts on the bottom triple tee).
When the forks were on the bench, it was very easy to get the stancion out. I just removed the screw at the bottom of the slider and the stancion came out very easy.
Now it's time to get new seals but I am in a bind.  Embarassed
As I don't have a BMW dealer close from home, the seals will have to be ordered.
Which ones as BMW had different types of forks over the years?

According to the S/N (0051114) the bike is a 09/1984 K100rt USA and the seal part # would be 31 42 1 450 127
The fork is marked "Brembo 1.450.520" and I took some dimensions:
Stancions diameter: 41.38mm
Bore diameter of the sliders: 50.88mm
Depth of the bore on the sliders: 6.85mm

Does anybody has the same fork and can confirm the part # for the seals?
Forks seals question. 20160714

Thanks

CF

That is a old part #, new part # is 31 42 1 451 478.
All Fichtel & Sachs forks using the same fork seal.

Thanks Inge,

Sorry to be a bugger, but the fork is marked as a Brembo and not Fitchel or Sachs.
Is this number good for Brembo too?

Thanks,

Bert

The early forks have always had the name Brembo stamped on the sliders.
But everywhere and as long as I remend remember What a Face they have always been designated as Fichtel & Sachs (or BMW fork on a few Places).
So I follow the mainstream and use that name, so everybody knows what I'm talking about :suspect: .

Hi all

Especially Bert! I was gobsmacked to see you ask a question! I thought and have been led to believe you knew absolutely everything!

I supposed NOW you do know everything as you have the seals issue sorted...

Hahaha

Regards

Mal

If I knew everything, life would be very boring.
With age the memory starts to (very) slowly fail and I even sometimes have to read what I previously wrote  Forks seals question. 78846 . I replaced these seals about 8 years ago, but could not remember the reference. The fact that BMW had different manufacturers for the forks could be at time very confusing. the original seal # was replaced twice since the bike was produced.
Oh by the way, I know people who tried to save money and bought industrial fork seals. THEY DIDN'T LAST. Get the genuine BMW ones.
We have a lot of knowledgeable people on the forum and help is greatly appreciated.
Other will benefit from my question and Hinge's answer :BW: .

I put some Pyramid brand seals off Ebay and dived head first into a large pothole but going slowly and turned one seal inside out. I always buy genuine now. charlie will remember the pothole well he just about disappeared in it before I hit it.
