Hey All,

Shane here, in Colorado (Denver/Boulder area). Just picked up my first motorcycle, a 1991 K100RS. I believe it is the red metallic, which is a maroon/burgundy color. Just over 42,000 miles and running good with a fresh tune up and fluid changes.

Excited to be a part of this community and hoping to evolve the bike into a naked version/cafe racer!

-Shane

WelKome!

I've owned a couple of those 4V RS bikes. Enjoyed the heck out of them.

(We sure are getting a lot of Americans signing up here lately.)

Shane,

Great picture - bike looks really sweet.

I know it's your bike your choice, but how could you even be considering making her naked/cafed. She looks perfect already and if she is running well too, keep her that way and look for an old wreck to bring back to life as your project bike. Just my bigoted opinion!

It is not unusual to amass a Kollection  of several K bikes (aka Kpox).

Oh yeah, forgot to say "welcome" and enjoy the forum!

Sweet looking machine. I'm not adverse to mods but it would be a shame to hack that.
A warm welKome Shane.

+1

I'm lucky in that I found an '85 RS that had no fairings for $950 so I feel that I can do whatever I want to it and not feel bad about it.

I have accumulated the following bits for eventual mods:

Works shock
Cyclops LED lights.
LED brake/taillights to go on each side of the license plate to supplement the stock light and "triangulate".
"C" fairing and new battery covers and all grommets and bits for same.
7" headlight bucket, Cibie headlight and LED H4 bulb.
K100 4v front end and wheels engine, tranny and paralever (engine may never be used but If I decide to Microsquirt/turbo that may change).
Naked radiator shroud and side panels - don't know if I will use these...

I still need to get new fork tubes and when I rebuild will have emulators and springs put in.  I MAY have Traxxion Dynamics do this part. - haven't decided.

The better half has stated that the repaint of all parts will be the stock Polaris Silver Metallic.

G'day Shane , + 2 for me , the 4v K100RS is in my opinion the best of the KRS's and by the picture you put up yours looks like a very sweet clean example . Please don't harm her ! , if you must go down the café ( yawn ) path go get yourself a cheap bike in a box like many others have suggested , don't do it to this fine example

Hey All,

Thanks for the welcomes and kind thoughts on the bike!

I've only had it for a little over a week, and I'm loving every minute of it!

As for converting it, I'm not set on anything yet and I appreciate everyone's concern in regards to hacking up such a nice bike! Unfortunately, what the picture doesn't show is that cosmetically, it's not THAT perfect. It has been tipped over by the previous owner and the right hand side of the fairing is cracked in a few spots. In addition, it's hard to see in the photo, but the left side plastic cover below the seat is busted and currently zip-tied to the frame to keep it in place... I'm not saying I'm going to do anything at this point, but I don't believe it's as great a specimen as you all are saying.

Anyway, thanks for the kind welKomes and I'm really looking forward to spending more time on the bike and on this forum!

perfect shaner spend some time and a few greenback $$$$ on it and a few parts off fleabay .com and get some bits and fix the scrape on the RHS repaint them to match  , another LHS battery / side cover, etc etc and restore it back to its former glory,  i would love to have a chance to buy a complete K100 RS16V at a price i could afford like yours they were / are a fantastic bike as they rolled off the line in munich, the epitome of the 1000cc 4 valve engine ,do that and you will have a bike to be proud of then go and buy an old clunker "barn find " and do your custom whatever and contract Kpox like me and other members of this forum have done so what say you TWB !!!! cheers mate and best of luck **woodcutter

Welcome to the forum!  I havea '92 K100 4v as well.  They are really great bikes.  I modded mine but rather than strip it, I went with the lower fairings from the K1100RS.  It is now my favorite of the three bricks I own.

Shane,
Glad to see another K in Boulder! You're going to love it. I got my '85 K100RS in March and I just can't stay off it. Have you been up Coal Creek Canyon yet? It's spectacular. And the Peak-to-Peak Highway is freshly repaved. Definitely check it out.
If you find yourself in Boulder with some time to spare, swing by my shop and say hi (Boulder Bikesmith, 30th & Arapahoe). I'd love to see your bike!
