Just found out Guard Dog lubricants closed doors last July - owner was past retirement age with no buyers for his business... sad  Sad

Also sad is a 2oz jar of GD-525 ($16.95 US) will cost $30-50 US to ship to Canada... this is nuts

What are other Canuks using?

Any Santa Claus types in the USA want to help out?  santa

Honda market a lubricant that does the job or Staburags is what BMW recommend.
Honda Moly 60 is now replaced by Moly 77 and should be available at all Honda dealers car or bike.
Permatex also make an assembly lube that is also recommended for splines.
Google "moly spline lubricants" and you get a good selection

I don't have any suggestions for types of lube to use but will comment on postage-to-Canada costs.  Living close to the US border, I have an American mailbox (PackageExpress in Sumas) and have most American items shipped there.  Many times American companies have free postage within the continental states then astronomical prices other countries.  Now that I live a bit further away from the border I time my trips to my mailbox to coincide with business or pleasure trips.

Being from Quebec you must go to Plattsburgh often... Rolling Eyes

I did a lot of reading to find a decent moly paste here in the UK and I saw a lot of people saying the new Moly 77 isn't a patch on the old Moly 60. It seems to be completely different stuff, Honda only recommend it for brake caliper servicing. Has anyone here actually used it?

I ended up with Castrol Molub-Alloy Paste TA (used to be Optimol), seems very thick/difficult to work and I managed to get it everywhere including the seat so it must be good stuff.. Right? Embarassed

Hi all, thanks for the responses  Cool

Spent hours on the interweb, found a Canadian online store - Canada's Motorcycle, now called FortNine, who have Bel-Ray assembly lube for CDN$21. On the MSDS page it says 15-40% moly, I think that will do? Question

Free shipping if I spend $49, I'm sure I can find something else I 'need' LOL I've had good relations with this company before - got new brake pads for the K (& saddlebags & flyscreen for Joanie's Suzuki TU250x... yes there is a riceburner in the garage).

It seems my favorite Youtube mechanic from BMW Service  Chris Harris recommends it.

Any comments?

PS Plattsburg is a 6 hour round trip for us so no, we never go.

Local Honda dealer never heard of Moly60 or 77, local NAPA doesen't know the difference between fuel line types so...

Hey, it's December - Merry Christmas to all  santa

1990k75,

Where do you live in Quebec?
Quebec city or somewhere else in the province?
Kinek has a border mail depot in Champlain. Champlain is only an hour from Montreal.
I used Kinek before, and they are pretty good. They will store your parcel for a very cheap price. Before the CAD$ dove down, a lot of Canadians were using their service to have stuff delivered at the US border. I almost had my K100 with the sidecar delivered to them, but I was able to arrange to pick it up from the shipper at the border.

Hi Bert

We are in Rawdon, about an 90 minutes north of Montreal... so here to Plattsburg & back is 5-6 hours (have to cross Mtl twice). Plus buy gas & lunch & it's cheaper to pay the crazy shipping...

Going to try to get a sister-in-law in North Carolina to ship it to me, we shall see...

Cheers & Merry Christmas, Lorne & Joanie

A stiff lubricant paste is recommended for input splines. Staburags NBU 30 PTM or Loctite Moly Paste meet that description, as did the now deceased Guard Dog. Sad  The Loctite product is 65% maximum moly content so it might be pretty good. Belray assembly lube has a less fibrous consistency than the other two. Somebody probably is using it with good results and somebody else probably believes maple syrup would be better.

I don't know what NBU 30 PTM has in it except for barium soap complex. I like the name, and its consistency so that is what I've always used on all driveline splines. BMW recommended it, but they may be doing that to set me up for failure. Laughing I'm risking my bike's wellbeing to rip the mask from their perfidy.
 cheers

I have never used it Lorne but BelRay do make good gear so I'd say that it would be OK.
What I have always used on my Z1300 Kawasaki and the BMWs is a called ROCOL GA50 which I cant find any reference to now.
From what I can find on the interweb its made in UK and the only reference to a similar product it MTLM which is a high moly content with the same applications as the GA50. I think GA50 has been superseded by the MTLM

Also found this Loctite product which will probably be available in Canada LOCTITE LB 8012

I hadn't found the Loctite when I gave up and called sister-in-law, got the Guard Dog sent to her in North Carollina for $7 shipping from Beemer Boneyard. It does sound like a winner, though...

I'm thinking the maple syrup is a sweet idea too  Guard Dog Died 44271

Thanks all for your help, go easy on the egg nog  rendeer
