Had a look thru the forum but can't find a similar fault, on my instrument cluster the light or lights that illuminate the tachometer stopped working, I have now replaced the dash as mine was stuffed, the speedo also did not work and the clear was all crazed, the new dash has the same problem so I am thinking it's not the dash, have changed the bulbs but no illumination, anyone have any ideas, all the other lights work, cheers Gary

Earth wire to pin 13. From your description it's likely that pin 13 in the connector block has either pushed out or the wire has corroded/broken. It's cross-connected to pin 18.

Also check that you have power at contact #24 in the connector when the light is turned on.

Hi all, it's been awhile, but to update I have been using the bike with no taco lights, I don't seem to go out much at night. A few weeks ago it had a cough and splutter for about 10 mins, cleared itself and run well. From past experience it could be the fuel filter, checked my log and yes it's been a while so I replaced it( owned my K 18 years and keep records)
like the clutch it is a bit heavy or I am getting older, checked the log and the cable was replaced 16 years ago, I can pull the clutch in with 1 finger now it's been replaced.
Anyway new filter and cable and all is good, BUT:affraid: the other day, cough splutter cough roll to a stop, turn off turn on nothing no go, got it home(heavy to push even just 200 metres from home) tryed to start it but the Battery seemed flat, charged the battery started the bike, nothing coming from the alternator, give it a few revs it slowly slowly creeps up in volts but let it idle and it drops below what the Battery had,
Checked the alternator brushes they are good. Bought a new Battery as the it was 4 years old.
Read a few posts on the forum, found there was no power to the thin wire to the alternator, after a day of checking and cleaning plugs  and connectors still no power from the alt,
Did not know my K had an exciter switch, so off with the dash which is my original dash but with the new/used surround, checked the bulbs and the Battery light and abs light were not working checked the connections with the multimeter, checked the bulbs in the other dash and they were good, now the manual says to replace the bulbs you need to remove the taco face and replace from the front(bugger that) so I used the taco from the other dash but kept my speedo so I don't have to calibrate it,

Back on the bike yeehaa I have battery light goes on then off when it starts and good power from the alt, abs light works but stays on after started, the bike has no abs it was removed before I bought it, easy remove the bulb. High beam light now does not work, and still no taco light.
After reading on here that the bulbs can be removed from the back I thought I will go back to my original dash and replace the bulbs, there was no bulb in the abs and what a shock no bulb in the Battery socket, hence getting no readings in the first place.

So bulbs replaced back on the bike, turn the key the speedo jumps up(never did that before) and the gear indicator jumps from neutral to 2, all lights working except the high beam and of course the taco lights.
Wriggle (is that a word) the wires going into the plug on the back of the dash and I can make the dash do all sorts of crazy shit. Even get the high beam light working, but no luck with the taco lights.
So I hope Jcar sell the female ends so I can replace them in the plug,
Hope replacing the pin connectors fixes my dash light issue.

After reading all about how the exciter switch works, my bike has run the last 18 years without the Battery bulb, I always thought I went thru battery's (63,000ks in 18 yrs)as it sat for long periods and killed the Battery's. got 2 to 3 years out of them.
I will update when or if I can get the pin connectors, cheers Gary

Just reread my post back in august I did swap the dash light bulbs, memory is not as good as it was, so I knew they come out the back, I counted all the bulbs in both dashes and am 2 short. So it never had the bulb in the battery or abs. Why did I not notice then:cheers:
