Hi all,

Back by popular demand, or at least some popular people have demanded it . . .
(Okay, some people I have spoken to said its a good idea.)

A preliminary shout out to the K world of a repeat of the meet up we had in February this year.

Proposal, subject to review and modification depending on demand and response:

Date: Fri 17 March to Sunday 19 March 2017
A bit further away from the hotter weather.

Venue: Jindabyne Holiday Park (same as 2016)
Aiming for the same location in the park, with a powered site or 2 included.

Ride: Saturday, same road as last time, but in reverse direction.
It'll seem like a different road!

Cost: Final figure will depend on attendance, but I'd expect ~$15 per person per night,
with a max figure of $20. Plus whatever people buy to eat/drink.

I've tried to search out other events in motorcycling generally, and in the Snowy area as well.
I hope I've avoided Klashes for the Klan (NOT Ku Klux!) and events that might make the Snowy Mountains full and busy.

Ideally, I'd like to get enough expressions of interest to book the venue by the end of this month.
I'll make a group booking of sites in my name/K100 forum for powered and unpowered sites. Those who would prefer a cabin, please make those arrangements separately.

The venue has a good camp kitchen, close to the proposed campsites.

Any suggestions, proposed modifications, complaints, please publish.

I hope to see you in the Snowy next March.
Overseas visitors especially welKome. I'm sure a spare K can be found if needed.

Bill

All that sounds good Bill. Perhaps we should bear in mind that the Far Cairn Rally is on the week after the Snowy ride date. Count me in. Cheers

Looked again at Al's post. Proposed date is bookended by Karuah River Rally, and Far Cairn Rally (as per Tom's post).

Leave the date as is?
Go back to February?
Go forward to April?
I'm sure RT will agree to not putting it in June!

All opinions valued.

Bill

I'll be in at this stage. going golfing in the Belarine Peninsular for a week, late Feb, early March. This would give me a week and a half to recover and get some finances in order.

Bob, that cabin worked out brilliantly last time...have to do that again. What's the prognosis for a Thurs - Fri trip down, via  some long cut somewhere? Arrive Friday night, stay Friday and Sat night and then wend our way north again?

Providing my shoulder has healed sufficiently, I'm hoping to do both this and the Far Cairn the following weekend.
It's a long way down from SE Queensland.
I'll have to give Karuah a miss (I'm not a big fan of leeches and/or torrential rain).
Is anyone happy to share a cabin (I don't snore much!)?
I plan to do some sight-seeing around Canberra in between the two events.

cheers,

Rickmeister wrote:Bill, Please confirm the dates ...17th, 18th and 19th March, 2017?

Thanx, Rickmeister.
Coincidentally, I just booked the sites at Jindabyne Holiday Park. Dates as per Rickmeister's confirmation request. Same location as Feb this year, same sites.

In addition, I've booked a powered site between our unpowered sites and the kitchen. A good friend (whose place we were going to visit on the RossKKo ride South before we got weathered out) will be occupying part of that with his caravan and acting as support. Room for others who need power, though.
Between his caravan fridge and my Engel, we'll have enough space to store some drinks without breaking the rules about storing alcohol in the camp kitchen fridge. (Reasonable, given the there may be kids around.)

Ken, my friend, isn't a current motorcyclist, (apart from the little ag bike on his 25 acres), but has some good stories about motorcycling including English winters when he was an RAF apprentice at Halton and later postings in the 50s and 60s.

Could anyone who is likely to want power please let me know? If necessary, I'll change one of the unpowered sites to an extra powered site.

For those who wish to forego the luxury of lakeside camping and slum it in a cabin, would you please make your own bookings?
For proximity purposes, we have sites 15 and 75 to 80 as shown on the park map here
Jindabyne holiday park 02 6456 2249
I'll co-ordinate camping, and the cost is confirmed at $15 per person per night. Please pay me at the park, not the office on arrival.

Not asking for an ironclad commitment, but if you are thinking of coming and haven't already posted, please indicate in the next few weeks.  Smile

Bill

I'm in William, although I will be a Cabinista. It is my good wife's birthday weekend, and as a present I thought she might like to drive down to stay at Jindabyne and have a romantic break in a cabin by the water. I know, very thoughtful of me, that's the kind of guy I am.
Now I better liaise with Herr Snormeister regarding the leadup trip.

I'll be an unlikely starter, I need to wrangle a day leave for each Karuah and the FarrKairn Rally already.  It's a real bugger having job where they expect you to turn up 5 days a week after have long weekends for most of the last 30 years.

Definite Non-Starter, it's the weekend of the Blue Mountains folk Festival.

Howdy Bill thanks for organising I'd love to come along if not too late.

I'll provide the comedic relief as you experienced campers sit around and have a good chortle while I attempt to erect my tent. I have a small two man tent in the garage but don't know where it came from or how it goes up. Maybe I'll do a dry run, maybe I won't (how hard can it be?)

Never done a camping trip on the moto before, so might as well give it a go!  Will be good to put some faces to the names, and have a bloody good ride!

Looking forward to it!
Elliot

Hi nods. My first effort in years was last year. A word of advice, take some kind of hammer the ground is rock hard, or full of rocks. I bent all my pegs. (I'm a cheapskate so my tent pegs weren't the strongest).

Definitely not too late, nods. Site booking(s) will be expanded/contracted as necessary, according to the best information available about attendees.

(BTW, all comers: If you expect to camp only one night, please let me know, including which night.)

Definitely recommend at least doing a dry run on setting the tent up, if for no other reason than to check its all there!

Other suggested things to bring: mug, plates, eating irons; sleeping bag; something soft for between you and the ground; compact folding chair.

The camp kitchen is quite good with plenty of sheltered seating, but we will share with whoever else is in the park wanting to use it. There is limited picnic tables/seats near our campsite, hence the folding chair.
All of this is subject to your age and endurance. Some are happy to curl up in a blanket on the ground, others want a bit more padding.  Smile

My experience has been that getting together with other forum members is always good. I hope you are able to come, and find the same.

Bill

+1 to that Bob. I pretty much destroyed all my pegs there last time in the rocky ground. Have since bought some harpoons and a decent hammer which came in handy on my trip across Oz last May.

WelKome nods. There will be a sizeable contingent heading down from the North Lands but beware! they are a motley Krew. You should be able to intercept them as they pass thru the outerburbs to the West.

Me thinks it's going to be a little cool there in March!

Tom, we don't need a recce run, but why should that stop us? At our time of life, there's a lot done that doesn't actually need to be done, most motorcycling included. Life would be a lot poorer without the unnecessary things we do and enjoy.   Razz

Some heftier pegs, steel not aluminium, and with a little grinder work to make the points sharper and more symmetrical is a good idea. I also modify the bent over end with a little reverse curve so that the point of hammer impact lines up with the shaft of the peg. Even thin ones are less likely to bend.

nods, lots of motley in our Krew. Looking forward to meeting you.

Bill

The Black Dog Ride flyer has finally reached the airwaves , which takes place on the same weekend .
Not easy splitting myself in half and with the availability of time , the Snowy ride is out for me this year .
Hope those getting to the Snowy will enjoy the Kompany and the ride . Cheers Ed.

Thanks Nigel ,
As can happen on the odd ocassion , dual events on at the same time ,
the Snowy ride would be a bit of a squeeze like last year , so I'm opting for the safer option this year .
I know there will be plenty of Kamraderie shared down south , and for sure , we"ll catch up on a run soon I hope .

Hunter Krew and NNSW member had a confab the other day, resulting in....

Hunter Krew leave Newcastle / Maitland / Greta etc on Thursday, 17th. Meet up with some Northerners at the Denman Pub, at (say) 08:30. Ride to Bathurst via Bylong Valley, Rylestone, Sofala.

Meet RT (and possibly others) in Bathurst at around high noon. Do lunch.

Ride to Boorowa via Cowra and other deviations to be determined. Drink Guiness/beer at the Irish Pub.

Leave Irish Pub early-ish Friday morning. Make way to Gundagai, Tumut, Snowy Mts Hwy, Berridale and thence Jindabyne, mid-afternoon. Drink Beer / rum / etc.

At this stage there is no plan B!

Herr Tourenfuhrer, Rickmeister.

Apologies as I am definitely out as this is the first weekend of a three week work course.   Sad

So I  may have to leave it to the Tourenfuhrer to organise the Rum. Snowy Mountains 2017 22936

I will also confirm that I am very definitely out, more due to time restraints than anything else now.

The booking at Jindabyne is for the nights of Friday 17 and Saturday 18 March.

The Hunter Krew and others are planning their customary scenic route, starting earlier, to arrive at Jindabyne on the Friday. They are usually welcoming of additions to the travelling circus, and I've seen no indications of any exception to the pattern. Very Happy

Bill

Thanks Bill.  The scenic route looks fantastic and travels roads I've never seen before, so I'll get up early and rendezvous at the Denman pub if the nefarious northerners don't mind. What's another day off work?!

Hey Nods. Just a friendly heads up, but traveling up to Denman from Sydney for an 8.30am start is a 3 hr trip. You'll then have another 5 hrs from there to Boorowa for the night. Add another 1½ hrs for pit stops and you'll have nearly 10 hrs on the road and add a bit more if you run into rain. If you're not used to it, that's a very big day and my guess is that you'll be wanting to soak your @rse in a hot tub rather than drinking Guiness at the Irish Pub. Not a good way to start off on a big run with another 3 days of riding ahead.
It would be a pity to miss the run down thru the Bylong valley and Sofala (beautiful country for riding) but my suggestion would be to meet the Hunter Krew at Bathurst for lunch. Bells Line is a nice run on a bike but be careful of the speed restrictions. Then take the Bowenfels/Tarana/Bathurst back road from Lithgow. This is a much nicer route than the highway and will take you about 3½ hrs with a coffee along the way. That's the way I would go but I'm heading south a couple of days earlier on the wednesday.

Having more closely read Holister's post (going south a couple of days earlier) - perhaps Nods and I catch up and ride to Bathurst to meet the Hunter Krew for lunch - what part of Sydney are you in Nods?

Thanks Hollister, yep it would be a big day in the saddle - I just get a bit excited as it's been a while since I've been for a good ride.

Warren, I'm in Camden. If you're in the inner west we could meet on the M4 somewhere if we're heading to Bathurst.  That would be Thursday if we're meeting the northerners for lunch so we'll need to arrange accommodation for Thursday night.

Cheers,
Elliot
