Anyone have a substitute for the 85 K100RT fuel injection relay?

It is just a bog standard four pin relay. It is not a fuel injection relay as it is used for all sorts of things on all sorts of cars and bikes. Just about any car parts shop will have them for around £2 new.

The fuel injection relay is a five-pin but it has a different pin layout to the over-the-counter five-pin relays in that the positions of pin 86 and pin 30 are reversed (thanks, BMW). In addition, it has a double pin 87 for the output; over-the-counter relays will mostly be the changeover type (pins 87 and 87b). You could put both leads on one pin 87; AFAICS the double output just makes building the wiring loom a bit easier.

Unless you have an automotive shop nearby to go and show them, stick with ordering an OEM relay.

DAI what would stop a bloke from reversing those two wires under the plug, so just any five pin unit would work??? a doable task perhaps??

I must live in a very modern rural France as my local motor shop has 4 pin, 5 pin changeover, 5 pin double output on the shelves.

K75: nothing at all. If you look at the socket there's a small cutout next to each terminal. Push a thin screwdriver down there and flatten the tang on the terminal - it may take a bit of jiggling. Once the terminals are out, lever the tang back up to an angle of approx 10-20 degrees and push them back into the 'other' hole.

BobT: the problem (as I see it) is that relays made to the early DIN standard as used by BMW are not generally available over the counter now. OTOH, if you're is willing to simply swap the terminals round in the socket then the problem is completely moot.

Would like to add that later models which using micro relays can use standard versions straight from the shelve as they have "normal" pin config.
