I now have access to an industrial grade ultrasonic cleaner. I have a few things I'm going to clean up and post before and after pictures of. My main question relates to if you all think it would be ok to clean my turbo with this machine. The guy who has it tells me I can put the entire turbo in this cleaner and it will come out looking brand new. I want to know if this has been done before and if not why? Figured I'd ask you all first.

perhaps suspend the unit in the bath rather than letting it rest on any one surface

a few of us have had temperature sensors (mounted in the oilpump ) crack around the ceramic to metal mating surfaces after an ultrasonic bath letting it rest on the bottom surface (yes the highest vibration point )

so from me a yes, but with caution

The ultrasonics may do damage to precision parts of the turbo, such as bearings. It might be OK for cleaning castings but be careful with movable parts until you're sure they won't get damaged. Will you be disassembling the turbo first?

I would be very hesitant to use an ultrasonic cleaner until you know what is inside. Would be best to ask a turbo specialist as the industrial cleaners can really rattle things.
