G'day guys. Although I was born in Australia, I spent many years in the UK riding bikes. I recently returned to he land of Vegemite and find myself motorcycless for the first time since I was 16. Back in the UK I have a house and 9 bikes, including my 1988 K100RS. At some point in the next 12 months I shall be selling the house and bringing over 5 of my motorbikes.

Of course, one of the bikes will be my K100 but, in the interim I have been looking to buy a K over here. To be honest, I'm not impressed by what's on sale. There's the usual poorly engineered "cafe racers" that the owner seems to think is worth north of $10000 and Junkers that are optimistically described as "appreciating classics". So my search for a good, well maintained K continues.

Because I have been away from OZ for so long I have a bunch of questions about biking in Australia so, if there are any K100 owners/enthusiasts in the Sydney area who would like to meet up for a beer/coffee and a chat send me a PM.

WelKome to the forum, being in Sydney you will find many forumites and more in the Hunter. You will also find that good Ks get a much better price here than in the Disunited Kingdom.

Cool ......yes, I have noticed that but, in the UK I spent almost 2 years looking for the right K100RS because many sellers were saying in their ads, ".......only done 100,000 miles and these bikes are good for at least three times that." What most sellers didn't seem to understand was the K100 also needed to be maintained and I looked at bikes that had done less than 40,000 miles and were completely knackered.

It does seem there are too many molested K bikes coming onto the market, half finished "cafe" bikes that the vendors feel are worth more than when they started stripping parts off them.

I have only just bought my first K which I found on Gumtree, though admittedly I went up to Ballina in Northern NSW to pick it up. 900 km ride home allowed me to "bond" with the bike.

I too would like to meet up with other K bike owners so am keen on a Sydney coffee (or beer Smile )

Hi to both of you Sydney based newish members. As Rick says there are a number of inmates around Sydney and a few of us up here in the Hunter Valley. The Krew, as the Oz members are often referred to, enjoy getting together several times a year so if you keep an eye on the Portal  I'm sure you won't have to wait long for a chance to meet up.

Cheers

Welcome Phssthpok - you're going to (got to) the right place for some amazing riding and a highly sociable krew, with the added bonus that they ride on the proper side of the road too.

I only got to spend a very short week in that area (about a year ago) https://www.k100-forum.com/t10864p200-northern-visitor-inbound-sydney16-22-apr-16#132764, but was smitten with the place, the riding and the people and am still scheming for a longer return...

When shipping your bikes, you should plan on buying a whole host of K100 spares to go with them (from the usual UK retailers) - if you can avoid the VAT.

Enjoy!

I should have added to my post yesterday for Michael Sydney and Phssthpok that should either of you be inclined to meet other Oz members and you don't have your K bike running but have other bikes on the road please feel free to join us - don't wait on completing a project.
Nods, who is another relatively new member from the Sydney region, joined us on our Snowy Mountains get together back in March on his Tiger (he'll correct me if my memory is krap) and had a good time.

Cheers

Thanks Gaz

Looking forward to catching up with some of the forum members when the opportunity arises.

My bike is running (I bought it in Ballina last Friday and rode her home without incident) though obviously I will spend some time working through a few checks.

Michael, I assume that is your bike in your avatar. That seat looks like the very rare aftermarket ones made by a Japanese company from what I have read. I look forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Was your bike imported into Australia from Japan by a previous owner?

Cheers

Correct Gaz, I believe it is Motoco seat. The company also made a rather bulbous version for the R80/100, but I do like this K one. Comfortable too.

The bike was indeed a Japanese import. For good or bad it appears to be about the 700th K ever built.

If I take the time to discover how to add photos I will share .
