I need to replace the side stand bush on my 88 k100LT. Is the bolt/pivot a threaded bolt ?. I've had it soaking in wd40 over night but cant shift it. I was going to replace the entire centre stand but the po had obviously had a go and rounded off the hex bolts. I had thought of just cutting through the bolts and using a stud extractor to remove the remains of the bolts. The centre stand looks to be in reasonable condition for its age just the side stand that's loose.

I am almost sure that its got Loctite on it meaning you need heat. I was going to do mine when the centre stand broke as they do because they corrode from inside and got all the bits then a complete K1100 assembly came up so I replaced the whole lot as one. You may be able to get a vise grips on it.

I was after getting new bolts and bushes for the centre stand as they were worn but my side stand was rather good so didn't go about rebushing it. Centre stand was bolts, lying underneath you can see the hole from the opposite side.

Yes you have to heat the bolts as they are factory installed with loctite.

I now have an 1100 stand, but when I had the original K100, once a year, I soaked the inner of the center stand with WD40, cleaned it and then filled it with Rustcheck oil. (Rustcheck is a water repellent treatment that we use in Canada to protect cars again corrosion):
You remove the 2 rubber plugs, spray a lot of WD40, put the plugs back and ride for a couple of days. You then drain it it and put your water repellent oil and the rubber caps on.
If I recall correctly, the rubber plugs at the end of the stand have a small hole to let the trapped moisture escape.

If you can cut through the bolts on the centre stand there will be enough left after removing the plate to get a vice grips on but that should only be a very last resort.

They will need heat as said then try bashing a torx bit into the rounded one which should then come out.

You could also try welding a nut to it but only to be done by an acomplished welder - you don't want a puddle of aluminium where your gearbox used to be.
