Yesterday, a friend brought his 93 K11LT by to have me help him with some maintenance. Since the bike has a little over 50K miles, I figured it would be a good time to swap in a new air filter.

Of all of the classic Ks, the K11LT has to be the most difficult to replace the air filter since the top of the air box barely budges.

Once we wrassled the old one out, I found that spraying some silicone lubricant into the channels around the rim of the air filter made it a lot easier to slide the new one in. (Any lubricant, even WD-40, would probably work.)

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, air filter changes always were a bit of a struggle on the early, and later Ks. I ignore mine for a year or more, then when the panels are all scattered about the garage, the filter gets a look. Lubrication is key to life.

On the bright side, the air filters on Ks are WAY oversized for a 1.1L engine, much less a 750cc.

Since it's a good round number, I put in a new air filter in every 50,000 miles, whether it needs on or not. 

I'd guess if you blew it out from the back with compressed air every once in a while that you'd be fine for a few hundred thousand miles with the one installed at the factory.
