Meine Herren,
After I get the 9,000 jobs out of the way from moving house back to Guyra, then get a start on both the chair and the bike, which is likely to take some time, I'll be looking at marrying the two up with a sub-frame. A friend of mine has offered to do the job for me at his place in QLD and I am pleased to accept his offer; he is a good fabricator with a lot of sidecar building experience and I trust his work.

One thing though is that he has never done the job with a K100 before and if possible would like to see how others have done this.

So if any of the sidecar riders in the group could supply me with as many photos of their mounting points and subframes as possible I'd be extremely grateful. We'd be particularly interested in how and where the subframe has been attached to the bike itself and also how the mounting points attach to the bike.

Sean , I had originally set about duplicating a subframe based on Alby's concept , which I think I also saw on the ADV page .
 I thought at the time ,that it was a more simpler design which appeared to offer the mountings in the closest configuration to the DJP you have . 
I still have the steel tube already cut to the profile of the K100. you could use them as a template.
 I'll leave them out for you , for next time you call in . They may be of some help .

So I set about getting in touch with people who had built a subframe to bolt on to our K100. No one other than saxon was of any real use. I also had a lucky find on the weekend and now I dont have to build my own hack. So pleased I joined this forum..

So reverse engineer from pictures was the way to go. I have started to draw this up in Google sketch up and post the final drwaings here when finished. This is the frame I am copying.

here is where I am at
I needed to find all the angles from the front of the engine..So simple after sitting looking at it for a day or two..Just follow the crash bars. I did this with a bit of alloy filler rod. Perfect!

Now I start on the construction.
using the crash bar mounts to bolt the rails to. There is one bolt hole that sits higher than the others so you can oly use three.

Where the centre stand bolts on is where the rear of the subframe bolts on. Cut out for oil drain and Rick g was right...I will use a plate of alloy in there.

Going up to the steering head like Berts and mine is important.  It stops the steering head from moving about (and frame tubes do snap, I've seen it and had it happen) and makes the steering more stable.  Also allows the top front mount to be a bit higher than the top engine mount.  You already have the photos.  Using a plate on the gearbox as part of the lower frame is a good simple  idea and has been done before (eg HRD sidecar subframes)

Too true about frame tubes breaking. One I had broke the frame back behind the tank on the RHS. You can only imagine the amount of twisting going on to do that.

Thanks everyone for the really useful photos and info.
Al, my last K bike had the front top mount as far up towards the steering head as it would go and I think that's effective. As you say, the higher up the better and the more you can spread the load across the frame the better. One issue I have had with the Triumph's mounting points is that I feel the front mount is too low. Nevertheless, it seems to handle ok now that it's sorted. ( By myself and friends.. not the manufacturer.)

So did Alby ever get his outfit on the road?
