Hi All
'85 K100 RS

At present I have the gearbox off for spline lube, also, clutch removed to replace main oil seal.

QUESTION: If I re-position the clutch housing on the shaft and rock it rotationally will this show up any rivet play in the output shaft?

thanks
Ian

If you can feel some play doing that then you would be in no doubt about something rattling, it would be really loud.

Hi Rick,

Just tried it.

Not the slightest bit of movement. Sigh of relief!

Not being able to move it by hand does not mean its OK. The rivets can be wearing out and still be tight enough not to be able to feel it by hand. However if you cant feel it then it should be OK to run it a bit to listen for a rattle and there are many things that will cause a slight rattle. Get it running nice and smooth then listen for the rattle.
Don't be too concerned about the rivets being loose I have only come across a few in the last ten years.

You can see some of the rivets by removing the RHS engine cover. One is visible in this picture......that shiny spot almost dead centre.
Rotating the crankshaft may show some movement at the rivets if they are loose.
