Thank you for welcome to forum, have been busy completing the sidecar & sorting out the bugs with connecting & 1100 motor to a k100, also trying to get our historic mcc to take up the classic vehicle scheme so I can use it on the 60 day concessional registration scheme. hopefully the photo's loaded. what I need help with is,
does anyone know who made the sidecar body, where was it made & when it was made?
the same for the chassis?
when I brought the sidecar I was told the body was DJP & the chassis was HRD

I bought a Z1300 Kawasaki with an almost identical chair but about 5-6 inches wider. After much asking and viewing other outfits I came to the decision that it was a very early version of a DJP, possibly very lats 60s or early 70s.
I did some work with DJP chairs in the mid 70s and it is nothing like them but found a Z1300 forum member in Newcastle who has a DJP that has the same body but with the guard integrated not separate like mine and yours.
I would say the chair is DJP but as for the frame work being from Ron Hurdis I really couldn't say.

I cant see the pics at all.

If you've been told the body is DJP and the chassis HRD it's entirely possible and likely.

I can't tell you the year it occurred, but when DJP wound up Ron Hurdis bought the DJP moulds and continued to sell new DJPs in single, one and a half and double versions. Ron could sell you a HRD Grand Rally (the "normal" boxy one), a HRD Classic (copy of the HD sidecar), or a DJP.  He used much the same chassis for all.  In the case of the DJP a huge improvement, the original DJP used a moulded rubber block swingarm that would wear out and go wobbly with age, where the HRD has a bearing mounted swingarm and a shock absorber/spring unit.

The HRD chassis probably has a chassis number stamped in on top of the chassis near one of sidecar mounts, the first 2 numbers indicate the year of manufacture.

Similarly when Ron Hurdis died, the moulds and jigs were sold on to Highway Sidecars in Mt Gambier.  SRK in Bathurst were building some modded DJP-style chairs.

Now that I can see the pictures:

The bike subframe is definitely HRD, most of the chassis is HRD but it appears the suspension has been changed entirely.  A HRD has a bearing carrier mounted on the outer chassis rail, a single swingarm pivots in this suspended by a coilover shock that is to the outer rail of the chassis.  I've no idea what the body is, a vague similarity to a DJP but its not a DJP, neither is it a HRD Classic (the Harley sidecar look-alike)

Typical DJP:

There are some variations over the years but the nose shape and builtin mudguard shape never really changed.  This version is nearest yours, but look at the taper under the nose where yours is quite up and down.

HRD Classic:
help wanted & sidecar pics 13dd25c2-7302-4201-a5f5-e8d8049a6d11-atlg
Made to look like an original HD sidecar but mounted on the left. Rounded nose, low rear (unlike your raised rear area) and you can see where the HRD shock absorber mounts to the chassis.

Doesnt mean anything, people stuff about with sidecars all the time, matching whatever body you have to whatever chassis you have.
Mine started out as all HRD, but I bought a shabby sidecar that had Leigh Hollamby/EML subframe, leading link, wheels etc and moved it all across. The only HRD bit left is the body.

I'll try to find out what that body is.

Al

I've found someone saying it's a Chariot sidecar. Not common at all.

I think you are correct. I have 2 of these and was told they are Chariot. The mudguard is different, probably changed for the suspension. Mine have the rubber torsion setup and 10" wheel like the DJP

I also think it's a Chariot. Here's one for sale in QLD.

One of the things I've discovered with Australian sidecars over the years is that the companies that have made them have often changed hands and been subject to name changes etc. New people take over, buy the designs and patents,... build them somewhere else with some mods and another name.

This one is from the same mold as the chair I got with a Z1300 Kawasaki but mine is about 1/2 as wide again and not in as good condition

Velorex were imported here. They were of similar shape.

The Z1300 I got with the chair was an import from USA but I don't know if the chair came with it or was attached later.

If attached to the left side ot was done here. USA is on the right (wrong)side.

Definitely a chariot. There were 2 styles that I know of, one had a separate guard (this one) and the other a long swooping thing like the pic below. The body is wider than a DJP, and a fair bit heavier. help wanted & sidecar pics Img_1910

I bought another Chariot recently that has been modified with the back cut down and a swing arm suspension and 13" wheel.  When I work out how to upload a photo on here  I'll put it on. If someone could tell me how to do it I would appreciate it.   Thanks. John.
