It's a bad connection. Disassemble and clean the right hand switch cluster.

Also check the connector (under the tank) for this RHS switch assy.
Did you find out about the missing tail light?
If not, the problem could also be in this connector.
It should be a bridge between the grey/blue and white/yellow wire.

Remove the combination switch from the right hand grip and spray a good amount of DeoxIt in there. I just had the same problem back in October and cleaning the cancel switch fixed it. It was shocking how much dirt came out of it.
