1. Possibly. Check to see if the case is in one piece
2. Check the throttlebody bar bar is returning to closed correctly (put your finger on it and push down)
3. and 4. You've got water in the GPI switch. Chances are that the cover has rotted and split - they all do it.

I used to have gear position indicator issues after washing the bike or riding in heavy rain. Turned out to be the 'gel-like' material used to seal the switch on the back of the gearbox was perishing, cracked, alowing the ingress of moisture. I removed it whilst doing a clutch replacement and packed it up to level with a neutral gasket maker putty. Has worked a charm ever since.

I try to direct short blasts of forced air from a compressor at the vital lekky connections to dry them off quickly after washing the bike, steering clear of bearings and seals, however.

Nothing wrong with using a pressure washer -as long as you keep a suitable standoff distance and keep away from sensitive parts like electrics, GPI sensor (actually quite hard to get to with a pressure washer) or radiator fins...

In my part of the world, a pressure washer is the only way to get the mud off, the mud that our local , generous farmers, insist on taking from their fields and liberally spreading on the road.

The fact that your GPI has gone kaput with just a regular garden hose, suggests that the seal is well and truly goosed and will continue to allow any flavour of moisture in. The good news, of course, is that you don't actually need a GPI to ride the bike. OK, so it is very convenient to know what gear you're in, great to have that glowing green neutral light and the ability to start the bike without pulling in the clutch...but back to basics and going up and down through the gears and finding neutral the old fashioned way is not hard to do. You'll even have the added bonus of being in 9th gear (indicated) at times while living with a dodgy indication.

You will still want to change the GPI (or strip, deoxit, clean and reseal the old one (do it in a cardboard box or you'll be hunting tiny springs and little pins for weeks)) at some point - but living with it for now, will perhaps give you more comfortable temperatures to do the job in, later on.

GPI went kaput on my RT and I left it like that until I as doing the rear main seal and then did everything while I was in there. No problem managing without it, but you need to make sure your clutch switch is good. Always worth having a spare switch in the shed in case it acts up.
