Greetings all!

I'm glad I stumbled upon the forum here.  My name is Brad, and I joined up since I picked up some "Project" BMW motorcycles.  Let me step back, first:

I'm admittedly a car enthusiast at heart (although it borders on obsession at times!).  Ever since I earned my driver's license, I've been fascinated with modifying and tuning my vehicles.  Currently the stable ranges from a 1999 AWD swapped Mitsubishi Eclipse GST Turbo, 1978 Datsun 280Z, 1991 Nissan 240sx (Race Prepped), up to a 2012 BMW 335i.  Like I said, I can't seem to leave my cars alone.

Since I grew up riding dirt bikes/snowmobiles, I figured it was finally a good time to hop into the two wheel world.  Last year, I took a motorcycle safety course, got my license, and purchased a 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650.  I loved the experience riding last season, and the Ninja has been a great bike to learn on.  I decided this year, to dive deeper into the motorcycle community.

This next part is not meant to upset the K100 purists, but I absolutely fell in love with the looks of the bike after spotting a local café racer inspired rebuild.  After searching my local craigslist for sale ads, I found a gentlemen trying to part with a few K bikes.  I ended up renting a box truck, driving up to meet him, and made a nice deal for a few bikes.  Here's what I think I've ended up with:

-1985 K100 (fairing) Needs some TLC to run
-1985 K100 (naked, nicknamed "Frank" for Frankenstein) Needs some TLC to run
-Extra 1985 K100 frame, wiring, low mileage motor and trans
-1986? K75 frame, motor, tank, a various other bits
-Tons of parts including saddlebags, extra forks/triple trees, springs, seats, fairings, crash bars, exhausts, etc.....

It has been a whirlwind to gather all these pieces, not fully knowing what I have here just yet.  I'm hoping with some help from forums and other online resources, I can better lay out the origins of all the parts.

The goal is to possible sell one of the K100s, after it is put back together.  The other K100 will be converted to a café racer, and hopefully enjoyed for a bit.  Who knows, it may never leave my ownership!  As for the spare K100 and K75 frames, I'm undecided at this point.

Either way, I'm excited to learn all about these bikes, and bring a few of them roaring back to life!   Hello from New York 112350

Hello Fox, welcome from across the state (Whitesboro)!!  This forum has been a great help to me, so don't hesitate to ask some questions and show the progress of what you're doing to the K's.  We all benefit from what you show.  We're planning a ride in a couple of months to Buffalo to the BarBill with some other like minded K riders (brews and wings).  If you're interested I can update you as we finalize the plan.

Again great choice of bikes, cheers
Bucky

Welcome aboard Fox , hoping it all goes well with piecing them all back together . We have krew here , Indian036 to make a mention , who have been up the same track , with regards to building from "scratch" .
Keep an eye on the rides section , as the forum sKroll should be heading to your part of the globe later this year , as we celebrate 10 years of this wonderful site.
Cheers Ed.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Bucky, keep me in the loop on that trip.  If I have at least one bike running, I'm always up for meeting other bike/car fanatics!

I would love to be able to start a build thread of some kind.  I'll have to check the forums to see where the appropriate spot for that would be.

brad  I live down by the lake between long pond and cranberry pond , I am a old triumph guy  my bikes are from the 50s and 60s  ,  but recently bought  a 85 k100 rt  that's all together ready to ride  but I haven't unloaded it from  my box trailer that I fetched  with, due to lack of space  as soon as the weather breaks  my old pick up will come out of the garage and the  bikes will come out of the livingroom, trailer and shed , ive never had a bmw but allways admired them , so I'm not much help on your projects but I do have a completed k100 example that may help , it allways nice when I'm restoring a triumph to have a example sitting here.  my bmer is like the Whitesboro bike same color   jim in rochester

Hey Jim! Thanks for the reply. Glad to know there is someone else closer to me with the same bike! You just picked it up you say? From someone local? Just curious.

Hopefully I can get one of these bikes up and running soon! Be on the lookout for a build thread coming soon. Might have to meet up with you at somepoint when the weather gets nice!
