Hi all, recently changed my battery to a 30Ah (690CCA) battery.
Not ridden my bike since the swap due to servicing in my backyard.
Every day though i'm starting the motor once and leave it running for 10 minutes
Facing problems with the fuel pump and some grounding connection with the clock and GPI switch not working.
So in my K100 RT's voltage meter ( double checked with a hadheld voltage meter) with the bike on the center stand and idle to 2000 rpm the reading i was getting was about 13.5V to 14V
Today after a blown fuse (number 3 from top) and some issues with the instrument cluster i took it off to check it.
After that i started the bike again and i was getting 12.2 . - 12.5V on the bikes voltage meter and cross-checked with my voltage meter by measuring directly on the battery poles the same numbers.

Isnt 12.5V while the engine running at 2000 rpm very low? Before starting the engine i measure 13,5V on the battery..
Is this a new problem i have to face??

Thank you

If you now running the bike without the instrument cluster, then you don't
have charge indicator bulb in the exciter circuit.

Try to to rev it to 3.5-4K and see if the charging starts.

It is not charging, as Inge says probably due to the lack of charge indicator bulb.
The worst thing that you could do to any engine is to start it and run it for 10 minutes without riding it. The water temperature will get to normal running temp, but the oil will not. Any moisture in the oil will not burn off and every time that you start it it will make the situation worse.

And yes, revved it up to 4K and the instrument needle went straiight to 14+ volts

Thanks one more time Smile

Thanks for the warning Bob. Useful piece of info. I thought i was maintaining my battery that way. Guess thats the reason i get white smoke from time to time with the bike on the center stand.

Unscrew the battery's ground cable from the transmission when you're not using the bike. Move the cable end away from metal so it does not ground or cover it with insulating material like tape. A battery in good condition will hold a charge for months disconnected that way; otherwise, you should connect it to a trickle charger.

I disconnect my battery ground cable in November after my last ride. It remains in an unheated workshop all winter and early spring in temperatures as low as -28ºC. In spring after mud recedes from the gravel roads, it gets reconnected. It starts up right up and the bike gets ridden almost daily for the next six months. The battery is a five year old AGM.

Look to see if you can buy an Oxford solar charger, it can sit in daylight and keep your battery topped up. Unplug it before you start the bike.
