Hi All,

I am need of some help, I am looking at purchasing a bike that seems rather special but I can not find any information on this bike what so ever.

The bike in question is a 1983 BMW K100 Krauser. We have tried to contact a few people and sent emails to as many people as possible but all seems lead to  dead end but most mails went unread.

Is anyone here familiar with Krauser or know where one could obtain any information?

Kind Regards

Dylan

Well I never heard about a Krauser K100 -a full bike like a MKM based on the R100 with 4 valve heads and Krauser chassis
Fairings were available from Krauser for the K100, they're quite common and do not represent a particular value.

Hi Dylan welKome to the Knuthaus. I know little about the Krauser K100 but I would say they were fitted with the Krauser fairing and other bits to order at a dealership and not factory fitted. There are a few here with far more knowledge about them than me and I dare say they will poke their head in soon.

its a 1930's Royal Enfield.

Would anyone be able to assist with this Krauser, is it something collectible and what would it be valued at more or less?

Wow! Quite a lot has been done to that bike. I'd say that given how clean it is and the Ohlins and customized EFI (at least from what the decals say) that it's worth more than a run-of-the-mill factory bike.

How much?  Got me.  It's worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for it.

Thank you Duck, what i have been able to attain is that there were between 36 and 40 of them made, there were a few different colors. Krauser took them off of the line and then built these bikes, even the ECU is a proper Krauser Luiftmeister ECU and has a proper Luiftmeister pipe system on.

The museum has only ever seen one other K100 Krauser but can not assist us with any history or assistance on the bike.

Other than this info there is very little known, the peorson who knew the entire history on the bike and as far as we can gather brought the bike into South Africa has passed away.

Duck's right there. As soon as you move away from a 'standard' bike (of any make), it becomes next to impossible to put a price on it. The only thing that gives a clue as to its provenance is the word 'Haltech' on the side. Haltech is an engine managment system that is a replacement for the Motronic. If you can find out which version of the EMS is fitted, the Haltech website will give you a good idea of the year the bike was possibly built. Each system is set up in software and some - such as those that should be around the age of the bike - will only run on a DOS or Windows XP operating system. You might want to factor that into your decision.

If you ignore the Ohlins suspension, I think those rearsets may be Tarozzis (which would make their fitment relatively recent) and the footrest hangers are a one-off milled set. The fairing is most likely a genuine Krauser.

The paintwork and graphics also point to a relatively recent build. The graphics are stick-on and lacquered over and this makes me suspicious. Had the bike been built in the late-Eighties-early-Nineties, they would have been airbrushed on. I'm impressed by the finish on the lacquer because I know how difficult it is to get a glass finish. I used to paint bikes.

One last think you might want to think about - insurance. I have no idea what the insurance game is like in SA, but because the bike is a custom build, you might have difficulty getting it insured for a nominated sum.

Buy it? I would, if the price was right. Someone has spent a lot of time and effort in building that bike and it looks like a no-expenses-spared job.

As for price I have no idea how much you paid but if it was mine you would not have got it for anything like cheap.
If it was mine I would greatly value it as I hope you do.
Like Duck said it is worth what a buyer is willing to pay and how much an insurance co will accept as agreed value. I would try 20K AU as the value and see what they say maybe even more but you would have to pay the premiums.
Oh yes I do like them, never seen one in the flesh but a few pictures.

I seem to recall a K100 with a silver Krauser fairing went up on eBay a few years ago.  Starting bid surprised me, might have been around $5000.  Can't say if it sold or how high the bids got.  It was a nice bike, but not as nice as yours.

Would the Raask rear sets make them period correct?

Don't know when Raask did start the production for rearsets to the K100,
but they where available on the market in -86.

That Krauser machine is mighty mighty purty. I spotted the 'rests as Raask straight away as I once owned a set intended for my OZ K100RS but sadly let them slip through my fingers in a time of $ need...

BTW, Luftmeister exhausts were simply a US-made system which were made for a bloke named Matt Capri, the owner of Luftshyster. Read RB Racing's diatribe on him by asking the Google Gods to search for Black Hole Exhaust BMW. Capri's catalogue did have a lot of go-fast goodies designed to separate you from your hard earnt dosh.

Luftmeister catalogue, circa 1988 - "Eliminate troublesome fuel injection on your K bike by adding carbs!" (two pages later)  "Eliminate troublesome carbs on your Airhead by fuel injecting it!"

I know, I know, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Harumphf.
