Hi all,

I swapped my instrument cluster lights to green LED,s and am very happy with it, but my fuel and coolant gauges

still have the originals .

Can anyone give  me the specs  for any led bulbs which will fit.

Thanks

Bob

not sure they have made leds in the correct format bulb equivalent bob

to be honest I found a couple of reasonably high powered leds and just silicone them into the breather holes , either side of the main incandescent globe holder ...of corse  the leds were not rated for 12 volts ...so had to install a current limit resistor in line ith the posative of the power feed .....  i had series up the leds  and found that about 330 ohms resistor kept the current through the leds under 20 milliamps

fuel and coolant temp gauge backlighting 2013-110

worthy of a mention is that the high powered leds do have a rather narrow light beam rather than the spread of an incandescent globe , additionally there isn't much distance between the back of the instruments (where the leds may be fitted ) and the backing plate - scale face of the instruments

so if you can find a wide angle 3mm  led suitable ….in the 10 mm types you an find the inverted focus type ...like this
fuel and coolant temp gauge backlighting 2014-010

….. which gives  a pretty reasonable spread of beam of light  ...rather than the dome type (concentrated focus ) types

you might be looking for at least 5000 milli candela 3 mm leds to do the job , with either flat or  inverted type lens out the front ...no that I have seen any such a beast as yet ...but I haven't been looking in the last year or so for useful version ...but will be chasing up some in the coming year for the project im currently working on

no mate ....no where near bright enough

have a look at the specifications ...the greens are only 20 mcd   (milli candelas )  ok for an indicator on piece of equipment at home but no particular brightness at all really

you would need 2000 Plus to be able to see it at night even ...more preferably towards 5000 +  mcd  (I think 1,000 mcd is equal to 1 lumen )

have a look at the specifications I found on this Chinese product I found online ,, sold in us ...and I guess in other places

but you will see the specification show the mcd rating for luminosity on the data sheet    you should aim for something like this to start with

https://lighthouseleds.com/3mm-led-green-ultra-bright-15-000-mcd.html

but this flat top led is better for the spread of light

https://lighthouseleds.com/3mm-flat-top-wide-angle-12v-pre-wired-led-green-ultra-bright.html

get a feel for the numbers and what may be good for you in this situation

I hope that helps somewhat

send me links to what you have found if in doubt

just trying to help out

Is this what you're looking for?  I use them in my gauges.  Not the brightest bulb in the cluster, but neither are the original incandescent bulbs.

https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/ba9s-ba7s/ba7s-led-bulb-1-led-ba7s-retrofit-car/10/#/attributes/15

I get a better spread of the light beam by lightly scuffing the plastic lens of the LED with 400 grit wet or dry paper.
