Ned asked this question in the tutorial section. Thought I'd start this thread to further discussion
Thank you for the pics and the idea. My ride is an RS and unfortunately
there is no real estate available to mount things. Can I kind sole post a
pic or two on how to mount a GPS. I am thinking of a minimal solution
involving the old car mount bits and Velcro. Any ideas?
You could try to manufacture a GPS shelf like the one on this web page below:

GPS Shelf from the Earplug Factory

I've used and sold these excellent products for mounting GPS/iPod/mobile phones & radar detectors. They're well-built, easy to mount, not terribly expensive, 'infinitely' adjustable, narrow enough to fit between the 'dash pad' and the 'bar controls, and are also made with a 22mm internal clamp diametre so they fit the BMW 'bars properly. A variety of locking and non-locking holders and adaptors will allow a wide array of equipment to be held securely within their grasp. Techmount is the manufacturer and you can also have a squiz at them on ZTechnik's site.
