Hello All,  Need some help here, I'm a novice.  I just bought a 1984 K100rs, the fuel pump was bad, at least so I was told, so I bought a new one and replaced it. However, nothing happens to the pump when I try turning the bike over.  Disclaimer, I haven't turned the bike on yet since I got it 5 days ago, been waiting on the fuel pump.  I haven't really checked anything other than the fuses and there are 2 fuses missing from the slots.  Anyone know what kind of fuses I need?

If its not a fuse problem what could it be?

thanks for your help in advance, I'm learning as I go.

Fuel pump fuse is # 6 from the top marked Kraffstoppe. The 4 pin connector that resides under the RH side of the fuel tank is a known source of problems. Cleaning with 2 part DeoxIT can sometimes restore connectivity. Once mine started to play up I cleaned it a couple of times then replaced it. I replaced it with a waterproof one from an electronics store. With the connector apart check for power when you hit the starter button.
Regards Martin.

Also: fuse #4 has a 12-volt feed on one side but isn't connected to anything.

On 84 K the fuel pump plug connector is the front left of the tank and is even worse for trouble.

If you probe into the pins on the plug you can open them out a little to make a better connection with the receiver under the tank.

I'm curious how you have an '84 K in the US. Is it a Euro model, or perhaps a build date of late 1984 which might make it an '85? The US didnt get K bikes until model year '85. Please post the last seven digits of the VIN as your signature so we know that we are looking at apples not tangerines.

Go to:
http://www.realoem.com - enter the BMW catalogue, then your VIN to see the model year, production date and intended market.

First order of business is to make sure that the fuel pump is good.  Put 12V to the smaller diameter terminal and ground to the other terminal.

Thanks for all the advice people, in the end, it was the 4 pin connector that was faulty.  I also replaced all the fuses for good measure. The fuel pump is running.  thanks again!
