Hi all, after some time sitting having various work done to it my krs16v outfit is not starting. The fuel pump powers up, the engine turns over no problem, but no fuel coming through. I've fitted a new pump and filter, everything is fitted the right way, just no fuel coming through. First thought is pressure regulator might be blocked or stuck. Any thoughts appreciated, cheers, Dave.

Does fuel come out of the hose when you disconnect the hose at the fuel rail?  Point the hose into a two liter soda bottle when you turn on the ignition.

Hi 75, no, nothing comes out form that hose, ive tried it a few times. I've now taken the pressure reg off to replace it and, as usual with this kind of thing, I'm going to replace a few other items in the injector area/air box area. Thanks again, Dave.

There was a 16V moto with similar symptoms discussed on MB.C last month. It was determined that the return and delivery fuel hoses had been attached to incorrect ports on the tank. When they were switched, the engine started up and ran.

If nothing comes out of the hose from the pump why are you changing the pressure regulator???  The regulator is downstream of the hose I asked you to check.  It has nothing to do with no fuel coming from the hose.

Your problem is either in the pump, the filter or a blockage in the plumbing between the pump and the fuel rail.

You need to focus on the problem.

Thanks laitch and.75 for the info. i'll double check the plumbing in the tank, but as far as I can remember everything went back the same. Unlikely to be a filter as it's new, pump is also new, so possibly not that either, but i'll check them out again, thanks for the input, Dave.

Disconnect the hose from the pump to the filter and run the pump.  Do you get fuel?  I wonder if you have the polarity reversed on your new pump and it is running backwards.

Has to be something along those lines or a blockage somewhere. Filter on right way around?

Thanks again .75 and Nobby, yes the filter is the right way round, double checked that, took the pump out and rechecked the electrical connections. re-fitted it. .75, i'll try your suggestion when I get the chance. Cheers again, Dave.

Did you check the connections by seeing if the pump actually pumps fuel when you put power to it?  If it is turning the wrong way because of incorrect polarity nothing will come out.

Hello .75, no didn't check that, I guess i assumed that as there are different size connectors on the pump then as long as the connectors are matched up right it should be ok. I'll check that tomorrow. Thanks again, Dave.

You're right about the connectors; on OEM pumps you can't get them the wrong way round but if the pump is aftermarket, then the terminal blocks may be the same size. Sounds like yours is OEM.

Hi Dai, no it's aftermarket pump, but, very nicely, the connectors are different size and labeled +ve and -ve also. I've double checked them with an original pump and they match up, so I'll keep looking to find the problem. Thanks again.

just a reminder

we saw a similar issue just a little while ago

the fuel feed and return pipes had been reversed at the spigots at the bottom of the tank

good luck
