I picked up a 22Lt top box last year they rarely come up for sale. It solved my handling problems in cross winds now a totally different bike. I was going to make up a rack to go on top but I decided I liked as is. Early in the week I saw another 22Lt with bracket on Gumtree for $50.00 Au and thought about it. Yesterday I decided to buy it and found it had been reduced to $30.00 Au. It's now on the way from NSW for $70.00 Au with the freight cost. How to rekey a 22Lt top box. 723598 It's missing the key, but it's unlocked so not hard to remedy. I might fit this one with a rack. I now have two Shads for sale.
Regards Martin.

Geez that was fast it arrived this morning. Well packed and just required a bit of a clean with Black Max. It doesn't look like its even been used much. Two hardly visible rub marks on the mounting plate and the foam has disintegrated. I will have to file the wafers back so my key will fit. How to rekey a 22Lt top box. 112350

I picked up a 22Lt top box minus the key. The lock is in the open position so I removed the whole assembly. I then proceeded to insert a thin piece of wire in the barrel release hole and using my bikes key I tried to remove the barrel. That didn't work it only came out about 6mm level with the chrome end cap. I have removed ignition, pannier and fuel cap barrels before but I had the proper key. Is there something I'm missing , do I have to take it to a locksmith?

Regards Martin.

Yep. The 22L locks are a bit trickier than others. Once you get the lock core initially loose by inserting something in the hole then you need to wiggle and turn the lock core 180 degrees in order to get it to come all of the way out.

That's with the right key but wiggling with the wrong key might work.

Thanks Duck I have a feeling it might be a locksmith job. I'll give it a spray with lube and try a bit more wiggling.
Just finished half a day pulling my fairing off, to replace my instrument shell. The glass developed all these fatigue cracks. I bought another one that had one good side so I replaced the bad side and did a swap over. Three fans going as it was 28C today.
Regards Martin.

I was going to head off to the locksmith but dropped into a mates place on the way, he has five bricks, none going but has heaps of keys. I asked to try his keys and low and behold the first key I tried fitted with a bit of jiggling. So I managed to get the tumblers out and on trying my key only one wafer slightly protruding. So with a bit of a file, all will be well. Duck was right you need the correct key to remove the barrel.
Regards Martin.
