These have been out for a couple of years so not that new but I just discovered them today when looking for a new helmet.  These are pretty expensive at $995 but for a real custom helmet that's not too bad since you get a truly custom helmet.

You go to a Bell dealer who does a 3D laser scan of your noggin.  They send the file to Bell and Bell makes a custom liner to fit YOUR head.  Then they pick the appropriately sized shell and install it.

Pretty cool stuff.

Great idea but I always feel for the dealers who now will need to buy the scanner to do the job and probably it will take to when Bell update to recover costs and so it chases its tail.

I can't imagine that a hand-held 3D laser scanner costs a whole lot these days as it's pretty mature technology.  What Bell charges dealers might be another issue though.

Also of interest is that the price point is just below $1,000 at $995 so I suspect Bell makes a decent margin on these.  But I guess they kind of earn it though for the investment in leading edge technology and providing a truly custom fit.

When and if Arai gets around to this it'll probably be $1,495. LOL.

It's also pretty cool that these helmets only weigh 1,500 grams which is pretty dang light.

Can you imagine what it would cost if Schuberth made a custom helmet?!

What I've done with my helmets since I started riding was to customize them myself for my head which is sort of longish and narrow.  Started with My Bell RT back in the late 60's, and still do it today.

My HJC modular helmet has a number of different interchangeable cheek pads to handle that part.  Then I cut and glue in high density neoprene foam sheet to get a nice snug fit on the sides of my head.  At $150 complete, the money I save can easily pay for a week on the road.

The last dealership I worked in sold Bell. The scanned head method of helmet procurement was 1% of total Bell sales. It's a fantastic idea not well rolled out to the general public. They seemed to aim both training of dealer personnel and advertising/marketing at racers.

I considered it due to a great promo rollout discount on price, but when I could buy a medium Arai Corsair that fits my head shape, then further customise it with thicker cheek pads and smaller top liner, it wasn't worth the wait or the money. The technology is cool and this concept could be the future.
