i've got unhealthy slack between acceleration and engine braking, and it's in my final drive. the K100RS had the lowest gear ratio, thus a higher wheel speed per engine RPM, and i want to keep this bike stock. so while 32/11 (2.91) final drives are pretty common, i really want a 31/11 (2.82). i'm not ready to learn how to tear one of these down and source new gears for it, so i'm hoping that someone here has one they're willing to sell. any monolever will fit, it doesn't have to be from 1985 like the rest of my K100RS. greg hutchinson (of airheadadventure.com and the undealership in redwood city california) is also calling around trying to find this for me, in case you hear the same request from that other pathway.

update: i've bought a 31/11 from 1985 (16 spline) with a purported 15K miles on it (i can't imagine how). so, this WTB is over. thanks to all!

There are 16 spline and 20 spline........best bet if you are unsure is get a driveshaft with it.

how well i know it! however, i've just bought a new (factory) driveshaft after stripping the splines out of the old one because of my final drive slack... so i will wait and see what kind of 31/11 final drive turns up before i decide that i also need a new driveshaft. thanks for the reminder, however.

How many splines does your new drive shaft have?

16 (no change from factory). but if the only 2.82 final drive i can find has 20, i'll replace the driveshaft a second time. driveshafts are cheaper and less rare. though i just sold a 20-spline shaft with my 3.20 final drive out of the 1992 K75, so i will definitely feel like an idiot in that timeline.

32/11 is 2.91:1 so the road speed is slightly less per engine RPM; this was normal on the naked K100, and RT and LT. not what i'm looking for, though. i have a K100RS which came with 31/11 (2.82:1) and i'm trying to keep the bike totally stock.

I even picked up a 31/11 to put on my K100RT...all 16 spline but having 2 on the road Ks with 16 splines a spare was wise in any event. To be honest if in trouble all that's needed is a 20 spline end welded on and a 20 spline 31/11 final drive.
