Hi All
After thinking I had boxed clever finding the item (1) below still being curently listed for my naked K100 , I sent my order in to a company called 2 wheel pros in the states. Unfortunately its just been cancelled and my order refunded with their stock being upgraded to 'no longer available'.
So does anyone know where I might get my grubby little mits on one or is there a viable afermarket alternative?? I loved the neat 'cafe racer' look of the OEM part so don't really want a screen that utilises the handlebars for its fixing base.
As ever, any help or advice from the wisdom collective greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Sadly not, I think thats an LT fairing and not suited to my round headlamp model. Ebay has been scoured under every conceivable search variation that I can think of, all to no avail.

AFAIK they are not available new anymore. They do pop up on ebay occasionally but if you bid have permission from your bank manager first to cover the mortguage increase.

Very Happy Close but no cigar!! Yes I did look at those but am reluctant to change the current headlamp fairing.

Rick G I feared it might require the banking resources of a minor country to purchase even secondhand so you will probably appreciate how crestfallen I was when 2wheelpros declared their stock listing as erroneous and the item no longer available. They initally charged me a total of £42.98 GBP or $64 including shipping to the UK Crying or Very sad
Wonder if anyone has tried to make one? acrylic sheet isn't that hard to bend.

Cheers

If you have one no matter how bad it is there will be someone who makes acrylic screens that can do it they just need one to copy.

If you want a rather small windscreen, another solution would be to search a used cockpit fairing from a K75C......same mounting base.

Might be worth contacting Peter at Screens For Bikes in Melbourne Australia. He made my tall touring screen to my requirements and may be able to help you.

Thanks Inge K, Im not keen on the look of the cockpit fairings hence my interest in this very discreet screen. I did originally buy an RS fairing with the intention of fitting that, but in truth Im quite taken with the naked look of this base model.
Ainsjac, Ive checked out screens for bikes website and thats a possibility but I would think that tooling costs for making a screen from scratch and limited interest would make it an economic non starter.
Ever the optimist, globe scouring and word spreading to continue.

I thought for a second you had achieved a minor miracle there 88. Unfortunately its not the item Im looking for. I think its for the K75C handlebar fairing.
I appreciate you pointing it toward me though and Ive added a new word to put into ebay/google searches.

Thats a brilliant link Rossco, thank you.

Fent, I don't think I have tried to search for a more difficult part.
Took me 45 minutes just to get the part number from realoem.
Good luck with the search.
You might find if you can somehow email the guy who made it you might get some measurements etc.

Rossco are you mind reading? I was just debating the best way to email the guy. Given the poor quality of the spanish translation. I have a Spanish speaking work colleague so may ask her to prepare an email for me.
Not giving up on the search yet though. Got in touch with a really helpful guy in the states yesterday who has been dealing BMW's for years and who very kindly did a dealer global stock search to see if the holy grail of the last one on the shelf still exists anywhere.............it doesn't unless a data entry error has ocurred. He also deals used parts so keeping my fingers crossed that he may get a breaker in with one fitted, I mean they must be out there somewhere.

Looking at the second link you provided, if the yellow bike has an original item fitted it doesn't attach as Id first thought. The base of the screen seems to stand proud of the headlamp shroud and not flush as Id assumed from the line diagram. Honda did a similar thing with their CX 500 producing a fly screen to fit the instrument cowl but it was a very neat flush fit and which is more what I had in mind.

There you go Fenton. The rest of us pretend. We just wait till 'he who knows' comes on to verify what we have said has some semblance of truth.

Thats just excellent Inge K, thank you. The dimensions shouldn't actually be too hard to work out (famous last words) and on the basis that I can buy tinted acrylic, I'm definitely tempted to have a go at making one myself if an original doesn't turn up.

Fent, A kitchen experiment to be done when mommy is at church.
You can make a form of fire treated plywood, make a "U" shaped box that fits in your home oven, and that will match the desired shape of your home made parabellum. Sand it up super smooth, to minimize imprinting. Look up the thermoset temperature melting point of your 6mm acrylic. Set your oven at that temperature. (if I remember it is around 325 F or less. )
You will need heat gloves, and some cauls and spring clamps to keep the bend while it cools. And you will need a propane torch to work the courners. Try to keep the heat uniform by not focusing the flame in one spot
Calculate the size of your Acrylic sheet. turn on the venilation fan. Rest plexi on the form, put it in the oven. Heat the form and lexan until it starts to soften. Fire up the torch. Pull the whole mess out of the oven and start to over heat the rounded corners to soften them more than the rest of the sheild . It should bend easily. retain it with the clamps until cool. Turn off oven and ventilator. Put mits back in the kitchen drawer.

Do this next bit before you set up oven and form
For cutting Acrylic. I would shape a piece of stiff cardboard to my desired pattern. That cardboard would be checked for semetry by folding it in half. I would then take a suitiable piece of 12mm plywood and cut out the pattern in the plywood. I would sand the edges of plywood smooth and square, but in the shape of the finished windshield unbent.
I would lay the plywood over the sheet of plexi and mark the plexi just 3mm larger than the plywood , then using double face tape stick the plexi to the plywood (leave protection paper on the plexi for this ) Then I would take a small router machine, with a 25mm long x 12mm dia cutter and 12mm diam bearing bit and route the edge slowly to the size of my plywood template. The idea is that you have smooth edged unbent plexi fairing. You can separate your template from the plexi and remove paper. Do not heat with protection paper on.

Now you can bend it (see kitchen project above). To finish the edges you sand them fine using 120grit, 180, 220grit, then you can use the torch to melt them shiney. For drilling holes in plexiglas, use a dull drill bit and burn your way thru. A sharp bit will grab and crack the cold plexi. Make sure to allow clearance for rubber grommets between plexi and fairing. Good Luck.

Max BMWs parts breakdown shows all the various parts are available for this fairing. The outer cover is only available in prime, not finished paint, but that is no big deal.

Looking at the diagram a bit more carefully it appears to be the K75C fairing but it is being offered to fit the K100, which it will.

Another option I considered were the dual headlights and bug screen from a Buell Lightning.

Thanks Tio jaimito. Thats some pretty intense instructions. Ive been in touch with a guy in the states (www.bikescreen.com ) who reckons he could make a copy for around $120 provided he has a pattern to work from.............which I don't Sad

Themason the item Im looking for is not the K75C fairing, although you are right it will fit the K100, Im just not keen on a handlebar type fairing, I prefer the more disccreet lines of the defunct retrofit item in K Inges post above. So Status Quo remains and my plans now are to have a go at making one albeit out of 4mm tinted acrylic.
Cheers

Fentible, both fairings attach to the forks and triple clamps, not the handlebars. Both fairings turn with the headlight. I don't see all that much difference other than style. Both are about the same overall size and weight. At least with one you still have parts in production.

Hey TM

I appreciate your efforts to persuade me down the seemingly sensible route, unfortunately Im not convinced.
Call me quirky but I really like the look of the little flyscreen, its reminiscent of those fitted to cafe racers of the past. Interestingly contemporary road tests of the day report that this diminutive screen was actually an effective wind blast deflector.
Theres also the point that I hate to give up on a search so quickly.

Cheers

i guess you could always make a cardboard or paper mache replica as a sample for the perpex worker ?

should be relatively painless ? i have a thought that you will find it hard to find, as i guess that it would be rather suseptible to drop events .
