When I press the starter switch there is frequently a one second delay before the starter starts to spin. I am not a busy man so the one second is not the end of the world, but I have to think this hesitation should not be part of my life.

I have removed the starter armature and it's surrounding case and cleaned both. The brushes are within specification. The starter cable is secure (no corrosion) and battery is new (but the problem pre-dates the current battery).

I have changed the starter relay (with a previously used relay) but the hesitation persists.

I'm looking for suggestions. Thoughts?

Time to clean the starter switch on your right handle.

I cleaned the switch - oh, and BTW I spent 30 minutes looking for one of the springs - six months ago.  The problem preceded this cleaning - and continues to this day.

I think the solution to my hesitant starting problem is to bitch about it here on the forum. Since complaining the old bike hasn't hesitated one time. So, my plan now is to start complaining about every trivial problem and then those problems will also evaporate into the ether.

So, until the gremlins return to haunt me, I thank everyone for their input.

Dave
