Seen this a few times as I've browsed for inspiration/been nicking ideas.
Dunno why, just seems to work, not the most radical of customs by a long way. Any thoughts?

This seems to work, dunno why K10010

The tank and the bars look fine, but it's the seat/rear frame that does it. Just wish I knew why.

...This is because so many hacked off rear ends/stumpy tail units just don't seem to cut it on a K100 - fat guy in speedos and all that. What is so different about this one?

It appears the frame has been modified below the seat by lowering the tubes.  Might give a better line between tank and seat.  It's hard to tell with a rider on the bike.

This seems to work, dunno why K100210

You might have a point there, they've aligned the rear section of the seat loop with the bottom edge of the tank rear half (I don't think it's just coincidence) and they've aligned the front part of the seat loop with the bottom edge of the tank front half (or is it like that anyway?)

Either way, I think it's that simple alignment that makes it look, well, thought out. Doesn't take much does it?

I like it.
I’ve no real eye for this stuff beyond my form follows function approach. But I usually think the caffed jobbies, esp. when hollowed out in the battery box, and even more especially with a bench seat tend to make the tank and seat loop relationship look un-thought. (If I had any skills and fewer problems of my own I’d take a wedge out of the rear bottom tank half to level out the line).  They always look a bit ‘perchy’ to me.
Chris is right, the lines of the seat loop can’t be an accident but what they do for me is get the rider sat IN the bike.
In the old days nothing felt sweeter than being wedged between a single seat bum stop and a big ali tank while clinging to the clip ons  Very Happy.
The Munch Mammoth had it nailed.

I think you have to leave the seat hight, slightly kick up the tail section after the removal of excess tube and then raise the number plate. Sorted  Very Happy

Removing the side panels has always seemed to show up the odd lines of the tank bottom and the front seat loop.  With the bottom rear of the tank rising up and the front seat loop descending, the K has always looked to me like it landed hard on a log and got bent. The side panels go a long way to blending the front lines to the rear.  The modified rear loop shown above does seem smooth this 'hump' out quite a bit.

Ref. the elephant. In the UK we hide them in a field of elephants.

We've got lots of fields of elephants over here.*
