I’m finding the K a bit like four wheel drive atm: it just lets you get in deeper before you get stuck!
Need to sense check something with my fellow sidecar folks please.

I’m stripping down to do a full spline lube and thought I may as well do the main seal while I’m there. I’ve read pretty much everything I can find here but the chair has turned a fairly straightforward job into a bit of a head scratcher.
-Wheel out
-Final drive disconnected
-RH fixed swing arm pivot out
-LH pivot allen recess stripped (probs loctite) so threaded portion only half out
-battery out
-coil cover off
-starter out

My Hedingham subframe bolts into the centre stand mounts, carries up to near the top of the radiator where it ends in a cross member bolted at each end. The sub at the back wont allow the transmission to draw back and also restricts access to the centre trans bolt on the LH side.
My thinking is:
-Remove the ‘centre stand’ bolts (done)
-Loosen the subframe cross member bolts at the front
-Detach the sidecar upper struts from the OEM frame
-Jack the engine and OEM frame up until the trans clears the subframe
-Remove the OEM frame rear leg bolts from the trans and then proceed as per the solo book.
Does that sound like a plan?
At a push I could remove the lower chair struts and pivot the subframe down, which I guess is no more precarious than a standless solo.
I still have the issue of needing to take the swing arm and final drive shaft out with the tranny but as far as I can see, that’s just a weight rather than access issue (and thanks to a younger CF, I happen to know the gearbox weighs 34lbs).
Whilst writing it occurs to me that there must be an element of dropping the trans slightly to clear the rear frame legs, so I may have to drop the subframe anyway, or winch the OEM frame up (which in turn must mean loosening the front engine mounts too.
I just know you conscientious spline lubers must have solved this problem many times.

I see from other posts you are on the move with this project but on my outfits when doing this type of job if I can possibly separate the bottom of the subframe from the top part (that is usually where the top front sidecar mount is) I do. Usually the top rear mount is independent so no worries there. Then drop the subframe away leaving the chair attached using the top mounts only. Alternatively if your subframe is set up to have about 20 mm spacers between the plate on the subframe and the gearbox, the bolts can be removed & gearbox slid back with everything left in situ. I have seen people use the web of the centre stand to act as the spacers for this purpose but depends on the subframe.

In the end I took the chair off in the interests of just getting on with it, but now I can actually see what I’m working with in future I think I might get away with just losing the RH sub and leaving the chair side untouched.
The upside is that I finally get to give the chair side of the bike a proper clean up.
