20020 would take a lot of planning.

I'll be there from Friday PM.  Probably with red sidecar, dogs etc

Sorry guys I wont be attending this rally, really wanted to but the wife has booked us onto a leaky boat out of Brisbane to the Whitsundays island for her birthday

Hopefully this will score me enough brownie point to do the Southern highland ride in March 2020

At this early stage, State Forests(who own the campsite) are getting nervous about us being on the Frying Pan campsite (like the other year with extreme heat, catastophic fire levels etc) as it could be difficult to evacuate.  Our permission to use the site may be revoked nearer the date.  Easy to understand with what looks like a very bad fire season ahead.

Those wanting to attend the rally keep your eyes open as the location site may change to an alternate somewhere in the same approx area. Better to be safe though.

To think it used to rain almost every year there when we were there.

I am planning to attend but work has a habit of getting in the way.

I've seen it both wet and dry there.

Possibly a bit late for some but I can confirm that the Karuah River Rally WILL be on this weekend at the normal Frying Pan Creek site. We have the permits and the OK from State Forests. For fairly obvious reasons there will be no firewood this year.  At this stage it is looking like there will be some rain over the weekend.

Marie will be towing the club trailer up this year(including dogs), so for a change I'll be able to take my solo(leaving after work Friday) instead of the sidecar .  So look for the fruity sounding TDM900 (roundels for the weekend?)

Hope I'll see some of you there. I already know Andrew is out with ongoing health matters (hope things go well for you mate).
Al

short story
it rained , and rained and rained ..I think Al  and I noticed it stopped for a minute or so  maybe twice over night
the river , previously creek , grew louder and louder with each hour  as the river became a torrent

had a buster , on the low road in, right at the bridge crossing , about 20 - 30 meters from the site , ably assisted to get going again , but with damage to right hand leg ...bugga !!

something like 70 attended , but al could confirm the numbers , as I missed the presentations (running late )

Seems like a bit of rain was the go all around last weekend.

Waz, Tom and myself did a bit of wet weather riding down the New Zealand west coast last Tuesday. The heavens opened at the top of Arthurs Pass and proceeded to dump on us for the next 12 hours heading south to Wanaka.

The day's totals were 690 km travelled in the 13 hours all up on the road and 600mm (that is not a typo folks - that section of road received 1.2 metres or 1,200mm of rain over Monday and Tuesday).

Needless to say our wet weather gear didn't cut it and the temperatures ran from about 15 deg C at the Greymouth end down to 9 deg C at Wanaka. I couldn't sign the check in at the hotel because of the shaking so was given the key and told to come back in a couple of hours when I warmed up.

Ya just gotta love this motorcycle touring.

All jokes aside - a couple of days later when we were looking back on the experience we agreed that the sight of all the west coast rivers running at full bank roaring rapids was a sight to behold.

Cheers

It's also on my bucket list.
I'll be up for it after March 2021 (when I hopefully finish my immunotherapy treatment and Mr.C has buggered off for good).

Never mind the leg Charlie! What about Gerty?

Seriously though - did you break anything in the leg or is it sprains and ligaments that need to repair? Hope you are starting to feel better by now if not riding yet.

Cheers

Gerty suffered a crushed right hand side city case (left on the side of the road , unfortunately ) lid appears to be in good order still
some scratches to the crank cover ,
a couple of fractures to the side pocket shell plastics
and some paint - fibreglass off the right hand side top fairing edge

all fixable,  thankfully  , but still some pull apart investigation to happen to those Tupperware pieces

she ran beautifully through the mass of rain , rock falls  , tree falls and other crap on the thunderbolts highway return trip

as an addition , as I arrived home the right hand knee had locked up and was unable to lift the foot off the foot rest , so on stopping and deploying side stand , we all went over to the right again till firmly laying on her side , this time leg not trapped , fortunately

an amusing occurrence as I could see it all happening at a snails pace , but unable to do anything about it ...

leg is awkward and painful at the knee so far , till the tendons stretch and inflammation subsides more details after the fracture clinic attendance later this week ..
