Hi All,

I am extremely new to bike builds even though I have worked on cars, so I'm not a complete rookie. I want to start a k100 cafe racer build (time on my hands) and have a few questions about the handle bars and fork height of a RS vs RT.

There is an RT for sale locally with 79,000ks (1985), however after doing some reading these are more touring than sportie like the RS. I want the cafe racer "low" ride, not the touring look. Are the fork lengths the same for the RS and RT? is it just the handle bars which are taller in height for the RT?

I don't really want to go down the path of changing out forks to the GSX and ordering parts from the USA. As this option comes with a larger price tag.

Many thanks for reading.

Yes, certainly on the early Ks all the forks & yokes are the same so you can start your project with any of the variants.
You can easily drop the yokes down the forks to lower the front, and there's clip-on handlebars available to fit either below the top yoke, or above it (if you've lowered the yoke and the tubes are sticking through enough)

Thank you so much for the prompt response. That sounds ideal and definitely the option I wanted to hear.

Thanks again.

That's the easy part  Very Happy

...the difficult bit is dealing with a bike that is plain ugly once you've stripped it down!

Here's one of the few customs that works (my opinion only, it's all completely subjective)

Agreed. I have a few ideas in mind. There is a wealth of information, videos and parts for these too.

It works because the seat/frame to tank line is correct. Most of them are anything but.
