Hi all.
Is the 2-valve K100 a “interference” engine?

A friend of mine asked me and I can’t find the answer anywhere...

Thanks in advance.

Pete.

Yes it is. Most engines are, I am not aware of any bike engines that are not. I think its only single camshaft engines are non interference.

I had to go and look because I'd never heard of the expression.

Circa, 1984. My 1976 FIAT 128 1.3 was not a non-interference engine! My then-wife rang me from the mall parking lot saying when she cranked the engine over it kind of loped and made a funny metallic crunching noise. She'd tried to start it a few times. Could I come and try it?

The timing belt had shredded. I worked in an auto parts shop attached to a metric repair shop called Toad's Kin Car Company & International Auto Parts of Florence (Fastidious Vehicular Therapeutics was their slogan). On the Saturday after work me and Skip, one of the techs, took four hours to do a full valve job (five of eight valves bent) and timing belt replacement. None of the pistons were 'holed'.
