Hi, I am going to try out an RS fairing on my 86 K100RT.
Anyone done it? any pitfalls?
On potential I see is the speedo cluster, will it fit in the RS fairing with out changing the mount?

You'll need the bracket for the RS that attaches the cluster to the upper fork tree.

On the RT the cluster is fixed position. On the RS it moves with the handlebars.

Thanks ,The way the bike is set up now ,the speedo moves with the bars, so I should be set.
I have never really looked a rs over,so I will have to take problems as they come.

Have you run the moto's identification number through a VIN checker to determine what you actually have? Yours seems like a hybrid already.

K100RT/LT's had clusters attached to the handlebars, K1100LT had fixed clusters.

I have 83 RS and 84RT. Cluster moves with handlebars on both BUT the mount plates differ and you may need one. I bought a cluster off an 84RS for my RT and it came with the mount plate. They were different  BUT they had the same part no cast into them. As I have both had a quick look and the angles seem different, RT one is at a higher angle. Clusters themselves are the same.

Hi, I received some fairings and parts ,so I've begun.
I found today that if a headlight bulb burns out on the road, it would be a bummer.
very tough to get at.

What makes you think that?  It's really not all that hard.

The only problem I encountered when swapping over my globe on my 75s which probably has similar access was trying not to touch the bulb. Oil from your fingers will cause the globe to burn out prematurely I ended up using a pair of nitrile gloves.

I am thinking you have to take  a lot of the fairing trim off to get your hand in and access the bulb.
we put the bulb in as we slid the rs fairing back, seem like there is only 2" between the back of the bulb and the main fairing mount . so as I said I think it would be a struggle if you were on the road.

In other news , does anyone know what size connector is used for the light connection in the rs mirrors?

It's a tight squeeze but you can replace the hradlight bulb without having to remove any fairing parts.

The turn signal connector for the RS mirrors is the same as for the brake light switches, choke and clutch switch.

Duck,
Thanks for the electrical connector info, I was able to find two on a K75 harness I had.

The RS fairing is installed , I will take it for a spin and see how it feels.

If you are going down that track I wouldn't use anything that you couldn't pry apart at a latter date. Possibly dabs of Silastic or dabs of hot glue. I have used Silastic to tighten up the ball joint on a loose mirror smeared it on the joint while working it around then let it dry . Once the residue was cleaned up it was not noticeable and the mirror could still be adjusted.
Regards Martin.

Didn't your RS fairing come with mirrors and clips. New clips can be bought from Motorworks.

Takes a little practice but you can easily change the H/L bulb without taking any fairing off.

Mirrors: I use leashes but I've read of (I think on the K11OG forum) people using bungee cord to hold them in place.

Thanks, yes fairing did come with mirrors. right side a bit rough in the mounting dept.
I will look into motorworks. Now that the fairing is fully installed, I see there is access for bulb.

The clips in the mirror are easy to replace.  I usually put a drop a 5 minute epoxy on them to keep the new ones in place.

I have replaced the clips and found that the mirror is much more secure.  I now replace them on all my mirrors.

I have the RT bars on now , but they do seem out of place with the RS fairing. I bought some RS bars, but no way that is going to work for me.
I am going to get another set of RT bars and take a few inches out  of the rise and see how that goes.

I don't see how you can do that.
Try K75C bars...

I did have a k75C rode it for a few years and parted it out thinking I would never need the bars , they went quick. now I know why, hard to find.
I will take a few inches out of the RT bars and weld them back. If I start having trouble I will ask one of the welders that work with my son. much talent.

So, I have installed the RS fairing including new clips for the mirrors, have received the extra RT bars that I am going to lower a bit.
I am going to ride it till it gets too much winter here, then take it down and paint.
I have a set of K75 forks I am going to install at that point. I like the fender better.
