Hello fellow K100 enthusiasts!  My son, Luke, has been wanting to do a Kbike conversion since he was 15... just turned 20... so as a project for the summer(looking like probably longer) we bought an '85 K100 RS. A bit of what we know history on the bike.. first alert, seller said he didn't know the mileage.. second alert, said had been sitting for several years, third alert, said it needed a battery so doesn't run. We show up to look at it, in the dark(lol), well, there was outdoor lighting, and the bike had the right grip control hanging, some wiring disconnected and hanging but most of the wiring was labeled.  Bike was pretty greasy/dirty underneath, rear brake reservoir broken in half, no water in the overflow(understandable) and probably a few other things.  We had my step brother in-law agree to meet us there, who although is not familiar with BMW's, has lots of experience with bikes and course racing.  After spending some time checking out various things, his opinion, and ours, was, if we could get it for a decent price, it would definitely be a project.  A little while later we were loading it up on the trailer.  Seller did have a side hardcase full of parts, including a speedometer(which he said he bought on eBay, mileage.. 98K on odometer) there was also a tool bag, some newer grip controls and few other assorted bike related parts(temp gauge). After arriving home we found the registration from the previous owner, did some digging and was able to contact him.  He graciously filled in the mileage gap for us.. speedo stopped working at around 98K. He had started the cafe conversion, stopped and it had sat for a few years after that, but, it had run up to that point.  Our guess is that the seller bought it, expecting to be able to complete the project and ran out of time.  With all that, we will definitely have lots of questions and would really appreciate and look forward to all the info on this forum!
Once I'm cleared to post pictures, I will..

Matt

introduction 177912 Socal is a pretty large area. You're near Mulholland, right?  Smile You can go ahead and use a photo of your prize as your avatar for now. Just click the Avatar tab inside Profile tab and upload it.

Otherwise, you can refer folks to this image, if they're curious, until you can submit a full-sized photo.
