The stock bar on my K100RS is actually bent a bit, so I've been meaning to replace it anyway.

When I got the bike, I got a nice barback that gives me 2" additional rise and 1.5" reach.  To get that "sweet spot" "mid-sporty" seating position for my 6' body I feel like I need just another 2."  (OK...maybe 3"...I forgot the right side bar is actually already bent back an additional inch  Rolling Eyes )

K-RT bars would clearly be too much.  I think the "C" bars would work on their own but they seem scarce at the moment.  Has anybody used either the Flanders B21 (/5 /6 style), or A22 bars on an RS?  They seem the closest to the K "C"-style bars, but I'm a little worried about the extra width from a control cable standpoint.  Honestly I'm kinda gangly so the extra couple inches of width may actually be better for me ergonomically...not accounting for what that might do to my mirror view, of course.  Laughing )

Side Road Cycles seems to have a good assortment of the bars and their website has good info, for quick reference:

In my humble opinion, I would beg the great and good on here to see if anyone has a set of 'C' bars they are willing to sell. I'm also 6' and must have looked at every possible bar out there but in the end (18 months of searching) got hold of a set of 'C' bars and it was worth the wait.

They swap straight over, no cable changes, no mirror issues and they don't detract from the K look. I was told that I would have issues with wind buffering due to the RS screen height, but to be honest, I'm too old to go that fast these days so it's not a problem for me.

If your bars go back "too far" for the cables then you can swap in RT/LT cables on an RS.

Heh maybe I'll just be patient, then. It'd be nice to not mess with the mirrors and all the cable stuff.

Interesting thing, I put Saeng edging on after a spoiler mounting pin broke (again), and though the envelope is smaller I don't have any buffeting at all. I'm still thinking of getting the Parabellum screen or one of those slick little french jobbies for the fall/winter chill. More the Parabellum because it's a bolt-on install so I could swap back and forth more easily at the season if I wanted.

Since yours is an '85 model, if you do a 'bar swap and need also to do a throttle cable length change you might end up needing that throttle cable end bit & bracket upgrade near the throttle bodies that BMW did roundabout that era. Unless it's already been done. Any later, longer cable may not fit the original end bracket assembly correctly.

Somewhere in my garage  I have an RS Parabellum windscreen that I bought and have never used. PM me if interested.

So I got a set of "standard" bars off of eBay, but I think they were retrofitted from another model:

-Width tip-to-tip is 31"
-They're the right outside diameter (throttle handle and all fits just fine).
-Inside diameter is too tight for my bar-end weights.

They *do* fit the bill, ergonomically (perhaps even better so with the extra width), so I think I'll still try and give them a go.  Do you guys run the throttle/clutch cables still up the center of the bike and over the stem or on either side of the frame?  If I do the latter I think I can make it work even with the extra length in the bars, and just get a center brake hose. Otherwise I'll need to source the RT cables.

Is the RT dash pad the same as the standard?

Good to know!  This cable on fleabay is the same model year--does it look like it will retrofit correctly?

I recently switched my 86 K100 from a RT to RS, I am 6'2" and 63 years old. I took a stock RT bar and cut 1 inch out of the rise and welded them back together without changing the set of the grip position . They actually work really well, I my take another 1/2" out.

What about a set of bar risers?
That's what I use with my K1100RS heated grips handlebars.

I've got 25mm risers under the stock 'bars on my red RS. This is ideal for me. The previous owner fabbed up some 50mm extensions which are just 22mm in diametre that cleverly slip inside the stock 'bar ends, giving me an additional amount of leverage. Of course, after that, I added K1100RS spacers to the mirror pods so I'm not looking back at my pillion's knees, lovely as they are, or gawping at my elbows when the blueberries and cherries come on on top of the po-leece car that appears suddenly behind me.

Lol...from my first post:

When I got the bike, I got a nice barback that gives me 2" additional rise and 1.5" reach.  To get that "sweet spot" "mid-sporty" seating position for my 6' body I feel like I need just another 2."

...I didn't really figure "cascading" with another set of barbacks would be a good idea. Laughing

I've got the new bars on and the wiring and existing RS cabling re-routed.  I do get quite a ways more than 2" with this setup. The cable routing is not perfect, but feels safe.  I'll know for sure when I fire it up tomorrow and test to see if steering messes up the throttle/clutch, etc.  If it works it will buy me time until I can source some new cables.

Yeah...doing that in my garage, not riding it!  Don't have front brakes right now anyway. Wink
