I've got this Garmin Nuvi 2460 from 2013 that's been lying around doing nothing useful since I got a smart phone. Thought to add it to my Silver K75. The Red has a mount to hold my smart phone. Found a handle bar mount from a bicycle shop which seems adequate. But the issue is to add in the needed USB micro power line so that it shuts off when the bike is off. Scanned the previous threads but most seem to be oriented toward using the aux ports ( 1 on dash and 2 above the coils). And of course need to have a voltage reducer so I'm not feeding 12Volt to the Garmin. Searching in my parts boxes I found an American auto cigarette lighter style USB feed with a suitable micro USB plug on the line. So my issue is where is the easiest place to pick off power from the switch to feed this unit. The cable itself is about 4.5 feet long which I don't see as an issue. But where to pick off switched power and hide the cigarette plug? Suggestions? Headlight bucket and the parking light was my first thought. Any comments?

I found a USB handle bar mount socket on line and mounted it just out of sight under my dash pad. The wires were then soldered onto the back of the ignition switch.https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dual-USB-Port-Mounts-Handlebar-For-Socket-Charger-Phone-Motorcycle-Adapter/353148742904?hash=item52394e2cf8:g:XvQAAOSw-q5fGkBh

Thanks Martin, looking at the photo, the bar socket has both a switch and two USB ports one of which is 1 amp and the other 2.1 amp "Efficient Charging". I'm guessing you have it set so that it can only be turned on if both the ignition switch and the switch on the socket are on. Is that useful? And what is meant by "Efficient Charging"? Fast charging? This latter question is because I'm curious as to how some sockets will do what Samsung calls fast charging and curious if the socket is what tells the phone to do fast charging.
best regards
J.

I don't bother with the switch on the unit as it is hard to get at but it easier to plug into. I normally plug into the 2.1 amp as I need to get a fast charge. I use it to charge my Wi Fi head phones for my GPS and very very  occasionally my phone. For charging when I'm stopped I have another cigarette lighter USB with a Merit adapter. If I was doing it again I would have it powered full time.
Regards Martin.
