Normally when you think of Silicon Valley you think high tech. Allow me to disabuse you that there are some gnarly roads out back.  Our esteemed leader, NorCal BMW Club, allowed that after all these months with no riding we would do a brief local ride, a mere 68 miles/104 KM took 3 hours. From Alice's Restaurant (no not the one in the song but an earlier west coast one) down to Gizdich Ranch a farm/ranch in the middle of garlic land. Think there were 12-14 bikes all told. Some of the roads can only be called that in deference to the folks who live there. But all were paved, more or less. Often with patches on top of patches and craters between patches. Here is the route approximately: From Alice's to Gizdich Ranch Image-1
For those not familiar with this area, the mountain chain between Silicon Valley and the Pacific has a lot of steep canyons with seriously twisty roads running down them. We had one K1600 overheat and an older R69S have an intermittent coil. My little K75 had no problem but I thought the fairing was going to be shaken off as the roads were seriously pot holed but then you'd hit a really smooth twisty. Lots of bicyclists out for the Sunday. A fun day.

Hey guys, not wanting to one up on the quality of the roads. But my poor little K75 is a road bike, not a GS. Let's just say the ride was interesting, particularly when I could take a moment to admire the view. Seriously there were some grand vista's back up that way. Sorry I didn't have gopro to record it. The ride down was interesting, 65 or so miles in 3 or 3.5 hours. The ride back home was 1.5 hours for me by freeway. Alice's is about an hour away from my house. Let's just say that after not riding over an hour at a time for the past 9-10 months, it was a long day and I was ready for the hot tub and a good nap.  Very Happy

That's the East Coast Alice's Restaurant which Arlo Guthrie sang about (kinda sort of) in his nearly 19 minute Thanksgiving song from 1967.
