I have disassembled my stock cap for my K100 RS, produced in 7/84, to powder coat it. I have found that the plastic barrel shaped insert which the lock cylinder fits into, is worn and the key will not turn easily or not at all.

looking for a good used early style cap or just the plastic barrel in good condition. Again this is the early style cap which has a roughly 1 1/2" rectangular removable insert in the center of the cap surrounding the lock cylinder.

Unless you must have that type its better to change to the later one. I have that type on my 83 RS and plan to change it out. They are prone to leak as in rain ingress.

I am aware that the early cap has some shortcomings but wish to keep the bike as original as possible. I am doing a restoration and the goal is complete originality.

I have made changes to my early RS too and kept the original parts for the same reason.

I see yours has low milage, mine too 27k, so keeping it away from the cafe boys. Mine's Madison Silver, being resprayed now.
