Funny thing, literacy and math skills tested better back when your dad was teaching than they do now. My daughter-in-law, who is a high school graduate with no college, home schools our grandsons. Both of them test 3 grades or better in all their subjects on standardized achievement tests. "Unfortunately", neither has been taught how to perform oral sex, install a condom or how evil their white middle class parents are.
My dad was a music professor Down Under (graduate of Boston Uni School of Music prior to the '56 Olympics where he ran marathon in Melbourne) from the late '50s thru the mid-seventies, so not the same scenario as in the states. I do know that when he returned to the US, sweeping us up and along for the trip for our first time, he refused to teach any longer as he felt educators had drifted towards becoming akin to glorified babysitters due to lack of what he perceived as parental backbone and a lack of support for teachers from home. He was plenty cynical about a lot of things - which didn't fall far from the family tree - but his appreciation of unions as a bulwark against domination of working folks by corporations probably came from that model of socialism, Australia, nudge, wink, and the fact that his dad was a loyal and hard-working union member in the Draper woolen mills in Canton, Mass for all of his adult life.
I use both Powerlet AND Hella male plugs and female accessory sockets in my battery chargers and heated riding gear for my Beemers, and there might even be an Australian-sourced Merit plug from my years riding back home, too. How'd I do bringing it back to the original thread!?
