Hi all,

Does anyone here have a stock of the multiple nut clips and bolts that attach the upper, lower & headlights parts together? Quite a few of them are out of stock and I need to finish this bike.  Thanks.

Which fasteners in these diagrams? Have you checked the parts fiches at Max, Motobins and Motoworks?

I checked several parts outlets. The local BMW shop burned down last September and has to order everything. The ones I need most are out of stock. I went on MrCycleParts and got a response form 1 place in Ga, that doesn't have them.

Pic 1 I need 3 #11's on the lower side fairing (it's a different size than #11 on the top side of that pic. Not sure why they give it the same number??) and the bolt/screw

Also need 3 #4's from the 2nd pic.

Check the dimensions, but I'm pretty sure that's it. Also known as U-nuts on your side of the pond and Spire nuts on my side.

Have you tried MaxBMW? Looks like they have the parts.

Try your local friendly Panel Shop they have Gay Gee (Assortment kits)  and might part with a few. Alternatively your local automotive parts supplier should have assortments in blister packs (Champion).
Regards Martin.

Point sven five, the local place orders from them and they say all of those are out of stock. I'm still checking with them, though.

MartinW, I've checked every auto parts place & only found 1 size and that really doesn't work.

Thanks all. I've been searching everywhere I can and still coming up short. The one I need most is the big, wide clip under the side panel that has a nut molded into it and fits around the grommet in the panel.

This guy crashed into a deer and put it all back together with anything he could find! It's been a nightmare trying to piece it back together correctly, since that's the only way I'll do it!

But keep the suggestions comin!

Laitch, Max BMW is who I've talked to. They say those parts are out of stock. I'm checking back with them. Motobins doesn't show the parts I need online, but I'll try to call them tomorrow. Gotta get up early for that call! Just emailed Motoworks. Let's see what they say.

Panel shops should have speed nut assortment kits. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CHAMPION-SPEED-NUTS-ASSORTMENT-KIT-U-FLAT-TYPE-390-Pieces/163373069096?hash=item2609cb3328:g:If0AAOSw6gdb6~aZ
Rather expensive and overkill to buy the complete kit. However if you approach one politely you might be able talk one into supplying you with what you need. Bribery also helps, possibly in the the form of alcohol. US Ebay a lot cheaper https://www.ebay.com/itm/110-Assorted-Piece-6-8-10-12-U-Nut-Kit-Spire-Clips-Zinc-Speed-Fasteners-Lug-Nuts/164148203582?hash=item2637fed03e:g:wi0AAOSwe~1ehta1 Different kits are available you need to type in Speed nut assortment kit.
Regards Martin.

I suggest that when you're seeking a part and you know how to use the BMW parts fiche, supply its part number in your post or else give its number in an assembly diagram.

From Max BMW. Last checked these 10 days ago & the local guy told me that they were all out of stock. Emailed them earlier to confirm if they are available.

What exactly does out of stock mean?  The parts fiche doesn't indicate that they are not available, so I'm inclined to believe that they can still be purchased.

Most of the parts I order from MaxBMW are not in stock at the dealer parts department, but are held in inventory either at BMW of North America, or in the Fatherland.  It's very rare that the parts I need for these old bikes are in stock at the dealer, but nonetheless, they can be had within a week or two.

"Not in stock" doesn't normally equate with "no longer available" when it comes to parts for these old bikes. Dealers are loathe to have a large amount of 30 year old parts sitting in their parts department.

I buy most of my moto's parts from Max because there's a branch next door in New Hampshire and they have proven themselves reliable in both communication by email and shipping.

Here's the thing. I don't bother myself by calling. I don't see the point in putting a parts person on the spot. If there is no NA(Not Available) on the line of the part I want when I view it in the fiche, I go ahead and order it online because I'm confident they'll get it to me eventually. Max will respond if the part isn't in stock, likely tell me the approximate time they'll be able to send it to me and either send the rest of my order or hold it until the other part arrives then send everything. 15 days has been the longest I've waited; usually they obtain it within a week or so. Smile

As has been indicated in this thread, aftermarket substitutes might be found. In your case, the only drawback might be living with the shame of using them. Laughing

Try looking at the parts list for the 2020 R1250RS, these things are used all over my bike.

Just to add my two cents.
I have found that generally speaking speed nuts/U-nuts/body nuts are for screws and spire nuts are for machine screw thread such as M5x0.8.

These two type are not really interchangeable. Although I certainly can't speak for all BMW's but my bikes are all Spire nuts, aka castle nuts, chimney nuts.

They are easy enough to find on line but do come in different reaches, distance from the u-bend to the centre of the threaded portion. It can matter in some areas.

I think the names and usage very a fair bit depending what part of the world you are in.

If you want to actual BMW part shoot me the part numbers. Price is good delivery time in very poor.
