Good Morning ,
Joined the forum yesterday and brought my 1st K100 RS 1984 yesterday, to add to the GSXR and C90 in the garage. It's been hiding in the back of a dry garage for 20 years and needs an overhaul and replacing bits that are missing.

Greetings!!!.

I got my 83 K100RS in 2018 after it had spent 17 years in a heated and dry boat shed.....

First thing to do is check the manufacture date. Reason is that 'early' K parts do not all fit 'very early' K bikes. In fact this can be tricky. If you have push button petrol cap [yes there is one] then you may find your brake calipers don't take the 'early' caliper rebuild kits. You need the kits off the 82/83 R bikes and not the K bike kits. Little things like that. Petrol tank is bolt on type, rear disk brake should be solid and not be slotted like the front ones [holes are ok, means its been replaced using EBC]......they got recalled for that but mine missed it. They crack suddenly and unexpectedly.

In do have an 84 K100RT so I can see the differences first hand.

Your centre stand may look good too, but they are very very prone to cracking due to internal corrosion and letting the bike over. Change it for a complete K1100 assembly, 4 bolts and its done. You risk breaking a mirror pod unit....and that's a lot more expensive. I did this on all my Ks.

Hi,
Thank you for the advice, the rear disc is solid and the fuel tank is key operated. I will check manufacturers date before I get started. Are you aware if the RT and RS ecu's are the same for this model ? I don't have the original for to identify to replace.

According to the part numbers on MAXBMW, the Jetronic unit (13611461828) is used on the K100, K100RS & K100RT models 1982 - 1989
