Hello! Todd here in the PNW with a gem of a find. This was luck of the draw as I just so happened to be scrolling through youtube while I was putting pieces back together on a cx500. All of the sudden there was the cafe'ed K with a monshock (which I was planning to fab on the honda) and the single-sided swingarm. Drooling. I instantaneously checked my local offer-up marketplace and came across a 1985 K100 posted 4 hours previously. Cherry red and needed a "little bit of TLC to get it running". HAD TO HAVE IT. Next thing you know, it was loaded in the back of my camper truck then carefully rolled down a ramp, puckering, and safely unloaded in my garage. She swept me off my feet. Knocked me off my socks, out of my shoes. The literal domino-effect as she knocked my cx over, pushed my tool chest, tipped the table I had all my ebay parts on. This was the beginning of a sibling rival relationship.

Under the knife, I swapped out the steering head bearings, replaced the left-side foot peg mount and changed the oil/filter and brake fluid. It is a dream of a find and I have been riding her since. 54k original miles and a couple scuffs and dings, I can't decide to cafe-style or keep it OEM! While the cx has been sitting stagnant now, shes been dribbling fluid and occasionally a drop of oil underneath. She seems pretty pissy.

Welcome! Arlina is absolutely correct. Nekkid K100's are rather rare and if kept in good condition, actually have a shot at appreciating in value versus their siblings. If i needed to build a cafe bike, I'd clean up the K and replace it with something else, preferably a single or vertical twin that has a strong horizontal line along the lower part of the tank that matches the line of the seat.

There is a sort of ugly duckling retro charm about the stock K bike that just works, and to my eye, the tank to seat line on them is very difficult if not almost impossible to get right with a cafe build.

A nice original example of what started a lot of us down the path of K ownership.  If you butcher that then watch out for the K gods and your CX ganging up on you and the associated bad karma.

Oh, and my great grand daddy got his first German in 1916 on the Somme   My first German 652573
