Hello all,

I'm Matthew, an American expat living in The Netherlands.

I have a 1989 K75RT purchased last year.  Really enjoying riding the hell out of this bike.
Some upgrades since.  New drive shaft & clutch. Fun times doing that work, (no irony!)
In the process of making one of those hybrid dream machines.
Recently acquired a K100RS fairing and on the holy grail of rs mirror fixing.

The board has been a great help over the past year; finally decided to jump in.

Welcome to the forum.
Yes the RS mirrors are a pain to keep on and an expensive piece of glass to replace (at least in Canada).

Has anyone ever proposed a good alternative work around?

For example, a 3d printed alternate fastening piece.

I can think of many consumable parts, that are hard to come by, that were by design, to wear out that BMW no longer makes.

There is the lock mechanism plastic rotator which wears.  My parts guy says if someone had a stash of those, he could sell many.

Welcome!  RS mirrors can be a PIA.  If you decide to keep them, put them on leashes so they won't get lost.  Part of the problem is that the clamps that hold the mirror pod on the bike lose their grip.  Fortunately, they are still available though rather pricey.

There are photos of K100RS bikes that have had the big mirror pods removed and replaced with LED turn signals attached to the fairing and handlebar mounted mirrors.  You can get the turn signals and mirrors for less than what a BMW mirror glass costs.  Bonus is that the bike looks better as well.

Thanks PS5,

I have read a lot about the mirrors, leashes, fishing leaders, new clips for 4$/€.

A more sustainable-cost effective way would be great.

There is metal 3d printing!

ps. PS5. shout out to the tri-state!  I'm originally from Stratford, CT, and find myself far away at the moment.

Life is good in the K-space!

Double bonus is that the replacement mirrors won't show just your elbows either.
