overheating issue remedied? Img_2017
Hi everyone ,new here, thx for letting me participate,
I rebuilt the water/oil pump ,changed oil, refilled with coolant, fired it up and rode it for a mile and the temp light came on. what is even more concerning is that the oil in the looking glass is as clean as if it just came out of the can.
I am assuming I screwed something up in the rebuilt process. The oil in the glass should surely be dark in color from picking up old residue? Any advice would be appreciated ,before I take it apart AGAIN,thx

Check the coolant system since you refilled it.  If you screwed up the oil pump rebuild, I'm pretty certain the engine would have been toast shortly into your mile long test drive.  There is probably air trapped in the cooling system and you need to "burp" it to expel the air.  Start up the engine and  squeeze / release the return hose at the bottom right side of the radiator (coming out of the crankshaft cover).  Once you've done that a dozen times, stop the engine and check / refill the coolant.

Will try that, maybe I should have filled it with beer,it would have burped by it self...hahahah
"release the return hose at the bottom right side of the radiator "?? means take it off ? or just massage the hoses? THX ,Really appreciate the advise >

Quick check for peace of mind: when you start the engine the oil level in the sight glass should drop out of sight - if the oil pump is working.......

Massage it to force the air out that is trapped in that part of the system.  Air in the cooling system inhibits circulation.

Will do the massage thingy,I just realized watching some videos ,that my fan actually never kicks in.It seems to be a pretty noticeable  sound when it does. It's already screaming hot here in Austin these days,I guess I'll find a way to test the fan first, thx so much for your info and patience in responding, really appreciate it !!!  cheers bounce What a Face overheating issue remedied? 212902

If the temp light is coming on then there is a likely fan issue. The fan should run before the light comes on and cool the system sufficiently to stop the light coming on.

Fans are prone to seizing and occasionally the relay fails so check the relay first.

No engine is going to travel a mile if there is no oil pressure. Also, the oil light did not come on.

Do the primitive test of taking a dowel of sufficient length and find out if the fan blade moves when you push it. It won't spin from a short push but it should move easily.

Glad to hear that,I'll start with the air removal, top it up and check the relay, any tips on how to do that,I checked out a couple youtube videos but it's not that clear....thx for all the help

That's just the primary test but often these rinky-dink OEM fans will fail even that.

Just a quick update ,since everyone gave all sorts of great advice...
I took the fan off,put power to it and it's running ,yaaaay
Finally found a fan relay, seems they were out of stock in a number of places,
and ordered a new coolant sensor from Euromoto (great place !)
along with one new cooling hose that seemed to deteriorate on the inside.
I had all sorts of crap in there still ,even though I thought I flushed it well the last time.
I hope it was still left over residue from the old pump that received a make over, fingers crossed.
Ordered the proper coolant ,also from Euromoto, and now waiting on parts to put the sucker back together,
thanx to everyone that helped me with all the comments and pointers,
I'll post an update once the work is done,THX again

Be sure you ordered the correct coolant sensor, 2v and 4v are different and not interchangeable. They are physically interchangeable but you must use the correct one.

Your photo is 2v engine.

Flushed and tested radiator with new thermostat, received the coolant sensor, home depot alu mesh screen,
Gonna put it all back together tomorrow and the temperature warning light will be history, hopefully.
The triangle warning light is only for the lights,as far as I understood, right? After I modified the relay I can now take the bulb out ,or put a piece of electrical tape over it,correct?
Thanx for all the pointers, you guys helped a lot,all the best !

Looking at the tank ,the right tank nozzle get's connected to the fuel rail, correct? I might have had it switched in the pic,but that is what I have now. THX
now I got other issues after reworking the cooling system, read below if you got some input...

[ltr]I am going crazyyyyyyy ! The bike ran about a week ago when I still had overheating problems.I got a new coolant sensor, a used cooling relay, removed the vacuum sensor and plugged the barb on cyl 1 on the throttle body.Bike won't start. No fuel getting to the fuel rail.open the tank ,took the fuel hose that goes to the top of the pump off the filter, pushed start... at this time I should have fuel squirting out of the hose, correct? but nothing. It's a new pump,it worked before, checked the fuse which seemed good, replaced it just to make sure.Even put the old cooling relay back in to make sure that is not the issue, but that shouldn't even have anything to do with the fuel pump, right? SOS ![/ltr]

Can you hear the pump start or prime?? In one of the fuel pipes from the tank there is a ball valve (many people remove) if its still fitted it may have seated closed with the pressure of the pump circulating the wrong way. Not sure if it damaged the pressure regulator personally I think not. Then I would be inclined to check for voltages across the fuel system and earth's. Did you buy the correct temp sensor check the resistance on both terminals and look for corrosion on the plug for the temperature sensor. Good luck think logical.

I did take the fuel line in the tank off the filter and upon hitting the start button no fuel coming out,so pump is bad after 5 miles,or bad connection of the fuckin 4 prong.I did replace the fuel line that goes to the fuel rail,no ball in there I am guessing. The hose on the left( looking at the tank) return hose? is still the original hose, didn't see a ball. or valve. The bike ran well more than once after I rearranged the the hoses,so not an issue there.I did specifically asked when I ordered from euromotoelectric which one to get and checked the application list.Should be the correct one.I am gonna jump the pump from the fuse box for just a second, to make sure it's working, pump is new with 5 miles on it.If it is working, I am gonna change out the 4 pin plug, the check the voltage there.Bought a voltmeter and check all the fuses again .

THX for the input ! https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/TEMPSENS-K197-p/tempsens-k197.htmI finally replaced the 4 pin connector on the pump at the tank.Used the one out of the relay box from the alarm system hook up. Made sure the fuel injection module was plugged all the way in ( under the tank,in the very front of the frame, black module) That solved the starting problems ( I didn't get any fuel to the fuel rail, duh)
Solution found: I replaced the 4pin connector at the tank , found the one from the alarm system in the relay box.Made sure the fuel injection module was plugged all the way in ( under the tank,in the front of the frame, black module box) And then replaced the temp sensor where the cooling system meets the engine block (behind the bottom of the radiator) Tested the Fan by hooking it up straight to the battery to make sure it works.
Put a new thermostat in while at it and voila,it all works the way it should.
THX to everyone that helped with their great advice !!!
PS: You can test the fuel pump by jumping right side fuse4 to left side fuse6,if your pump works ,you will hear it right away. You may empty your tank this way as well !

Are you referring to the fuel injection relay in the relay box on the left side of the frame under the tank?

Wait for a couple of hundred miles before you start the party. Smile
