The next time you swap in a new tire it is probably a good idea to replace the old rubber valve stem with a new metal one. I use BikeMaster 151402s on my 3-spokes.

Good idea, Duck. Also, for those contemplating 90° stems for easier access, they do not work on the front wheel because of interference with the brake calipers. I have a 90° stem mounted on my rear wheel but found that it no less accessible than a straight valve.

I have 90° stems on both wheels and have had no problems and dealing with the 305mm discs on a K1100 is much easier and on the rear wheel I have angled the stem back about 45° which makes a access a bit easier.

Rick, I'll be putting new rubber on My K100RS this year and I am seriously thinking about 90 degree stems.  Do you have a link to the ones you are using?

This is the guy I got them from in Brisbane. I bought 8 of them a few years ago and progressivly fitted them to all the bikes. I cant imagine they were anything special, they look to be the same as the stems I bought but 2mm could make the difference. You could fit them so they are angled a bit for clearance.

I didn't get a repair kit but it was the only link I could find.

Rick, I see the stems that you referenced above have much shorter shanks than the ones I had fitted. That must make all the difference. My tire specialist was unable to find much selection in 90° stems so I was stuck with what I could get.

Rick, I found them and bought a pair on eBay.  $11.25 + free shipping.

Bit of a generic one guys n gals. I’ve just encountered my first permanently mounted 90o stem. It’s mounted in line with the rotation of the wheel, so the business end is facing the rim and provides zero access. The obvious answer is that it needs to rotate to face the outside of the wheel dish. Do they do this or is this one just mis installed?
Done lots of searching but cant find anything about them rotating/sticking.

Maybe somebody was asleep at the wheel. Smile
The tire bead on one side—at least—will need to be released to get in there and rectify the situation. Sometime the opposite side needs to be pried over the rim to make more room for the adjustment.
